I don't think it'll happen this year, whatever the case. Unless there's a big XO game I don't know about, but I was under the impression that CoD was their last semi-big title for the year while Wii U still has Smash (and maybe Captain Toad in certain regions, though I'm expecting that to sell more to existing owners). There's also the whole Amiibo thing. I honestly have no idea how that's going to turn out.

As for next year... not sure. It really depends on marketing and a couple of key games. Microsoft have done a pretty good job of turning the perception of their console around, while Nintendo still have some work to do.

Yeah, Halo MCC. It released the week after COD...

Should probably mention Far Cry 4 and GTA V as well, they should help sell Xboxes

AC Unity as well. Also, did he just call COD a semi-big title?

Nope, wii u sales will increase too much after smash bros.

You sure have a lot of faith in Smash Bros. I think it will increase sales but not like Halo, COD and sunset. I'm pretty sure they will pass or be with 100,000 after black friday sales.

A lot of people in this forum seem to consider Smash for Wii U to be like the second coming of Christ for some reason...

I don't think Smash is going make that much of a difference tbh, the holidays release schedule is always tight as hell and with so many games coming out on PS4/X1 I doubt many consumers are even going to consider getting a Wii U to play smash specially when they can get their fix on the 3DS version.

a collection, a yearly multiplat and a small exclusive won't have even half the impact of smash.

Smash must have purchasers have to much overlap with Mario Kart and other Nintendo franchises that already launched. If they didnt pick up a Wii U for Mario Kart why would they pick one up for Smash?

Also have to add that retailers are mostly ignoring the Wii U for Black Friday weekend. Think the only deal is at Best Buy.  Wii U will be left in the dust that weekend.  Wii U will be passed by X1 before November ends.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

So, you think there is a huge overlap between smash fanbase and other nintendo games, but thinks a halo collection and another cod/ ass creed will bring tons of new buyers? also, bear in mind that many people are still going to buy mario kart 8, 3d world, dk... even fans of those series tend to wait untill the console has an X number of games they like. Smash is just a big push to an already great back catalogue of games.

man I do enjoy what Nintendo comes up with... But there is no way smash and Nintendo can hold the fort this Holliday season... Everything is pointing in that direction... Only a shortage could change the facts by now...

halo/cod fans are in bigger numbers than smash fans and they had no real reason to switch before... And pricing is compelling on top of it...

I believe and have believed for a long time there is a type of gamer called the Nintendo gamer that lives and breathes by Nintendo games.  Each and every one of those games will have successfully less success in driving purchasers of the console for any particular game.

As for Halo. Yes I do believe that fewer people will pickup a console for Halo 5 alone simply because they did pick it up for Halo MCC. It only makes sense. Overall i believe that the X1 will blow away the Wii U and overtake it by end of November not because of Halo MCC, but because the Wii U has made very little entry into the mainstream its 2 years on the market. So much so that retailers are barely mentioning it in Black Friday advertisements.  Finally as my signature has said for years. "It's libraries that sell games not a single game".  If people arent buying the Wii U now it is because they are rejecting the console and its overall library.

I do not have data but I'm pretty sure there are vastly less overlap between forza and halo than there is between smash and Mario kart...

but one thing I'm dead certain there is far more people that would have waited for MK to come out to buy a Wii U than smash fan waiting while there are way less forza fan waiting than halo... So yeah pretty sure halo fan waiting to buy XBO dominates easily smash fans waiting...

Are you comparing the community volume of fighting games to that of FPS's?

No reason to switch before? there was already a cod on the system. and halo is a collection, it's only an incentive to a small fraction of the halo fanbase.
