Forums - Gaming Discussion - Best RPG's on Android?

Greetings! I'm hoping to get some suggestions for RPGs that are available for Android. I've recently started a new job where I have oodles of free time on night shifts, but am not allowed to bring a Vita or 3DS so I'm limited to what I can play on my phone. No MMO style games. I'm looking for games I can pick up and put down every so often and am able to pause if need be.

Aside from just some suggestions, if anyone could tell me how DQ 8 performs on an HTC One (M8) I would appreciate that also. I don't feel like dropping $20 on a game for my phone if the frame rate is complete trash. I've heard the game chugs on some older phones, but I'm assuming the M8 handles it at least to the point where the game is still enjoyable?

Thanks in advance!

Get Happy Chick and have full access to the snes ps1, gba, ds and if your phone can handle it, psp jrpgs..

Otherwise the final fantasy games, chaos rings, lots of kemco rpgs, zenonia, .. I'll add more later

- edit - well there are 2 dozen of kemco jrpgs bit Symphony of Origin and End of Aspiration are a good start.. Do not forget Chrono Trigger

Thanks. I look forward to seeing the rest of your recommendations.

How do the Zenonia games stack up vs the handheld/console ports?

Booo! Hiss!

First post and someone already suggest illegal emulation @.@

While I don't know a ton about Android games, I highly suggest watching Humble Bundle, because they often have Mobile/Android bundles. They have one running right now, but I can't speak to the quality of any of the games

Zenonia is pretty fun.. Zelda like hack and slash rpgs.. Think some a free.. I only played till.. Think 3.. There are a lot of Korean Rpgs out there.. master of Dungeon and Crimsonheart being the best. Inotia 4 is also pretty fun. I loved Wild Frontier but that game seems to have dissappeared..

The ports all work great cause jrpgs don't need a d pad or something.. I find it much easier to go through menus and battling on a touchscreen

There are also some Western gems like Aralum Sword and Shadow (or something like that)

I just got my HTC M8 a few weeks ago, and I just happened to do extensive research on great RPGs available.

Ravensword Shadowlands is a Skyrim-style RPG, and it plays great on HTC M8. 7 dollars on both google play and amazon app store.

I haven't played it but Dungeon Hunter 4 looks pretty good. I have played the 2nd however. Dungeon Hunter is your basic dungeon crawler from Gameloft. It's a good game series (other than the 3rd installment) with great graphics and pretty good gameplay for a mobile game. It's also free.

Also SoulCraft is another good RPG with solid graphics.

Chaos Rings is a series from Square Enix is a JRPG, kind of like final fantasy, with high end graphics. I think most of the games are over 8 dollars, but sometimes you can get them on sale for half off.

If you're looking for something with more 16-bit style graphics:
Zenonia is a great series
Inotia is good, but IMO not as good as Zenonia
Illusia 1 and 2 are good if you're looking for side scrolling RPG.

If you really need more, developers Com2uS USA (Inotia and Illusia) and Gamevil (Zenonia) have even more RPGs avalable, as well as other good games. Best of all most of them are free, unlike when I got them a few years ago on iOS.

Also the M8 is one of the most powerful smartphones on the market, so I'm extremely confident that it could handle Dragon Quest. But unless you're a die hard fan I wouldn't spend 20 dollars on it. But that's just me; there are so many other games, and a lot of them are free.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

*cough*

In most countries emulation isn't automatically illegal: as long as you own a legal copy of a game, you can run it on an emulator.
The emulator itself can be illegal if it copies 3rd party firmware without permission, but it's legal if it contains an independently developed functional equivalent.
And there is more about this latter issue too. In some countries it's legal reverse engineering too, with more or fewer limitations: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_engineering#Legality

But in the end: emulation isn't a priori illegal.

I know that in the US it is illegal whether or not you own a legal copy of the game (but not really something you would ever get in trouble for), but beyond the law, I certainly don't think it is something members of the gaming community should condone. If you emulate/pirate, keep it to yourself and don't encourage others to do the same...

But Skies of Arcadia on the go is awesome... Props for the Dreamcast! Emulation on Andriod..
Trading roms shouldn't be allowed but talking about emulation? Why not? I love pcsx2.. My real ps2 died a long time ago.. nullcast to save my dying dreamcast.. My honeybee converter stopped working.. Should i not enjoy the games anymore and hope that one day they'll be released as digital game?

Sure we can be goodie two shoes but like we haven't downloaded a movie or mp3 before..

There are some decent ports if you don't want to play games born on the mobile platform and don't want to emulate.
Spectral Souls is a full port of a PSP game.
Bard's Tale is a full port of a PS2 game.
And then there's Chrono Trigger.
