Because calling a troll, a troll is not flaming. It's stating a fact and deconstructing their "argument". -_-

I disagree, that's an opinion and it's an insulting to call people people trolls. It's a strictly subjective term and that's why the mods have to form a consensus to moderate people for certain things.

I understand that VGC doesn't let you call a spade, a spade. Those are the rules they've chosen, and you see merits and consequences of those choices.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

Another week, another round of Rol wanting to call out users.

It's not going to happen. It's not how we operate. The reason that users are here is to add to discussion in the forums in a constructive and positive manner. Your role is not to issue out your own self-prescribed judgment through name calling, labeling, or ad hominems. If you have such an issue with a user, and their position is bad enough for you to deem them some unsavory name, then obviously that position can be quickly debunked with time, reasoned and level headed demeanor, and proper evidence. Taking the quick road to "call a spade a spade (deemed only by you)" is just a lazy way out that doesn't help discussion move on in a positive or constructive manner.

For the mod team, it takes a team of individuals to come to a consensus on how to judge others and their actions. That's what we're here to do. And even then we have to properly state reasons for why we applied said judgment to those users in question. So even mods don't have the leeway to just throw names and labels around without having to properly justify why. That's our responsibility, and not the responsibility of users. Debate them, ignore them, report them. But to label them and demean them? That's not going to happen, and that's why we have rules against that.

We've been talking about this over and over and over again. This is our stance. Just as it was the dozens of times we've been over this before. And it will be our stance going forward until stated otherwise. Find a way to talk with someone without throwing around negative labels. If you can't do that then maybe this forum isn't for you (and yet we've all been doing pretty great so far so...). Some folks don't like it. We get that. But it's how we operate, and will continue to operate going forward. So there's really no reason to continue this conversation (*hint hint*).

It seems to be a general consensus around VGChartz that a troll can be defined as even someone who says something really stupid ( For example The Xbox One will beat the Ps4 worldwide or game x will sell x amount and so on ). This is not the actual definition of a troll and therefore users should not be able to call out other users as being trolls using this definition. In fact it is not up to you as a user to determine rightfully what is trolling and not trolling but it is up to the fine moderators of this site who have read ( several times I suppose ) the rules and know when someone is trolling or not. The best a user can do is tell the mods ( by reporting ) when they think someone is trolling but they can never take the law by their hands as their definition of trolling may be different from that of the mods.

In fact if anything why even worry about a troll, report and let the mods handle it ( Which they will ). It's perfectly clear that users want to call out other users not because they actually want that user to be ashamed but because they want some drama in their lives.

Didn't see the above post as I started typing before Smeags commented. Anyways I agree with the Big Boss.

Send a Friend Request On PSN :P

It is quite obvious that users who go into every threads of a certain topic to downplay things aren't interested in "adding to discussion in the forums in a constructive and positive manner", as Smeags put it.

But yeah, we get that stealth trolling is a problem. We're definitely going to try and make a bigger effort to see it and stop it before it can take hold and suffocate discussion. Kinda like that D4 thread. Lots of silly pot shots that have nothing to do with the topic at hand.

I don't really feel like reading all those novel size responses. Brevity is the soul of wit. The more you speak, the less sense you make. I'm just gonna assume that kapi and smeags disagree with me.

Probably pissed off a particular crowd that LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVES to report.

Well I don't know what you're talking about. My experiences as a mod didn't support this theory; posts which were worth moderating were reported and acted upon after a discussion amongst the mod team, and several times reports were dismissed, or posts were found without the use of the report button.

Making general blanket statements doesn't really help anyone. If the post was worth moderating then it surely doesn't matter who it offended; because that's not the important part. The important part is that the post itself was, infact, breaking one or more forum rules. Ofcourse at this point I'm not sure if that's the case, but I have faith in the mod team that it would only be moderated if it was worth moderating.

This feature always kind of annoyed me about this site.  Why is there even an option to set a profile to private?  we already have a private message system for people that want to communicate privately, so what's the need of blocking people from viewing the profiles?

It is an annoying feature (one which doesn't exist for mods, so you forget about it really). Having a private profile makes sense to people who aren't friends; but fully private seems a little backwards to me, personally.
