Please please please take this post in the humour it is intended I just find people attacking such things as the royal familys child last year because they called it a boy was so OTT it hurt. Microsoft's executive vice president of human resources, Lisa Brummel, said in an email to employees that there is still "much work" to be done regarding Microsoft's diversity. "Diversity and inclusion are a business imperative. Diversity needs to be a source of strength and competitive advantage for us," she said.

Enforced diversity for the sake of diversity is a massive and costly burden around the necks of corporations.  It brings down quality while raising expenses.  I'm pretty sure it's one of many reasons why businesses are moving production over-seas.

A friend of mine used to have an upper-management job at a large plant, from which he retired.  Part of his job was sorting bids and hiring outside contractors for projects, both large and small.  When he first started, the hiring criteria was, as expected, quality and cost.  However, that changed over time, until it came down to an official guideline handed down from corporate headquarters.  Basically, after that, the main critera became the sex and race of the contracted company's ownership.

At the top of the list was Native American female on down to Caucasian male at the very bottom.  If he had two bids, one by a female owned contractor and one by a male owned contractor, he HAD to hire the female owned business.  If it was between a Native American female owned contractor and an African-American female owned contractor, he HAD to hire the Native American female owned business.

He was pretty disgusted with this, as it meant that the high-quality contractors he liked were often frozen out by low-quality contractors who would set up a figure-head minority as co-owner.  He said it would often turn out that he would hire the initial contractor based on minority-status then he would have to go back and hire ANOTHER contractor to COMPLETELY RE-DO THE PROJECT, often at additional expense because they would have to strip away what had been done.  We're talking about paying double price for projects that can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not more.

With that kind of situation to deal with, I don't know that I can blame corporations for fleeing to other countries.



Are there also some statistics about the percentage of people who studied the stuff you need to work for MS? I mean, it's pretty stupid if a company "needs" to employ a lot of people for diversity when they simply can't really find enough to achieve this. And I'm not only talkig about 2014 numbers, many who work for MS left university years or even decades ago where the percentage towards Whites and maybe also males was probably higher as it is with people who left university this or last year

I mean, if there are 2000 applications for 10 positions as software engineer I bet most of them are from males and if you would then try to achieve a 50/50 situation between males and females (or try to get as many blacks as whites) you would probably not only choose those with the best qualifications which would be pretty stupid. Most who studied stuff like that are simply White or Asian males.

Sure, I won't deny that there are companies who also simply don't want females or males in some positions even if they have a better qualification. I mean, there are enough who want as example a female secretary in front of their office and a male could never get the job even if he would be 10x better as the best female applicant but when I look at the numbers from MS it sounds pretty plausible.



I'm surprised by the high female count.



If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I'm 100% with Mr shine on this one tho, there shouldn't be policys in place to give someone a job who is under qualified just because they finish off the rainbow jigsaw that makes the office PC, should never happen. The fact that someone went through the MS offices with a clip board ticking off everyone if they were black or white almost is more worrying to me... what about mixed race? did they hold up a paint tone chart next to their skin to see which end they were closer to? must have felt great being counted like that...

Shouldn't the best applicants be hired? Never understood why the government feels the need to interfere with how a business should hire/run itself.



It really hurts the quality of the products of a company, when a company hires (white males) just because of their skin color and gender. There is a lot of competent and educated women that get treated unfairly.

How is it confusing to you? If you want to hire someone to drive a Bus does it matter if they are gay or what race they are? no it doesn't of course it has Zero impact on their ability to do the job only their qualifications do.

When it comes to a handicap... I mean myself, I'm a type-1 diabetic, one of the Jobs I can never work at here in Ireland at least is an Ambulance or a Coach driver, the reason being as an insulin dependant diabetic I can suffer hyperglycemia when under stress, massively affects my vision firstly, then judgement and if not corrected with glucose I'd drop into a coma (that drop can happen within minutes) Do I expect to get a job driving a Bus full of kids because Equality means I should have the same right to that job? even tho it could mean killing myself, passengers and whoever I crash into if such an event happened on the road? No of course I shouldn't be, a policy which suggests otherwise is dangerous.
