So, thoughts on Warzone Firefight now that it's over? I liked it more than original Firefight, teamwork required was nice, a few games lost because of messy teamwork, a few games we easily completed because of great teamwork, will be playing it again once it fully releases.

Some unique modes/rounds would be cool too, all hunter? lol oh and adding in Brutes.

Enemy difficulty feels good too, kinda awkward having 3 tanks in one tight space though all firing at the Warden Eternal xD.

I can agree with these points, and I really liked the teamwork as you were saying. If you didn't use it, it would end up being extremely difficult to end up doing anything during the gameplay.

Halo 5 Kicks Off Weekend with Super Fiesta and HCS Pro League Qualifier

It was a busy time for many Halo players last weekend, who got their first chance to try outWarzone Firefight beta – the ambitious new multiplayer mode coming to Halo 5: Guardians this summer. For many, the Warzone Firefight Beta provided a chance to call-in rare and powerful REQS and work cooperatively with teammates to take down powerful Forerunner and Covenant forces.

This week the competition heats up once more with the arrival of the frenetic “Super Fiesta” Arena playlist and first HCS Pro League qualifier taking place at PAX East!

What is Super Fiesta?

Since its release earlier this year, Fiesta has been a strong fan-favorite, with Spartans equipping random primary and secondary weapons in chaotic Arena battles. Super Fiesta takes power weapon pandemonium to the next level by introducing legendary REQs to Arena for the very first time! The Magnum may be replaced by the deadly Whispered Truth, with silenced shots. The already-deadly Sniper Rifle may instead be the utterly lethal Nornfang, firing high-explosive rounds! The entire library of REQ power weapons could appear in anyone’s hands in Super Fiesta, available for one week only, starting today until April 28.

Halo Championship Series Pro League Qualifier at PAX East

Last week, 343 Industries and Xbox announced new details about the Halo Championship Series Pro League (HCS Pro League), a long-term partnership between 343 Industries and ESL to grow, nurture and evolve Halo esports at every level of competition. The first leg of the HCS Pro League begins in Boston, MA, where Evil GeniusesEnigma6Team EnVyUs and Optic Gaming will compete at PAX East this weekend in Halo 5: Guardians to secure a spot in the league.

If you’re planning on attending PAX East, be sure to stop by the ESL stage on Sunday April 24 at 12 p.m. ET to watch the tournament live! For those at home, you can watch all of the great Halo action on Twitch.tv/Halo; be sure to tune in earlier at 11:30 a.m. ET to catch the pre-game show, where casters BravoStrongsideGoldenboy and MrJoshuaGray will share their predictions and analysis on who they can expect to show up big in Boston.

Stay tuned to halo.gg and Xbox Wire for a recap of the competition on Monday.

Super fiesta? I was gonna play uncharted 2 when I got home.. That might just have to wait a bit o.O I heard about it earlier didn't know it'd be in the game already though. And firefight was really good can't wait for the actual release. and file browser, nice. So with super fiesta being in the game doesn't that mean forge will be able to have variants now?

CONTROL FREAK

BY B IS FOR BRAVO - 1 HOUR AGO

Hello, friends. We’re off to PAX East for the weekend, but stopping by with a quick blog this week. Across the studio, teams are hard at work on the Memories of Reach release, including updates to UI and matchmaking, new Forge goodness, sandbox balance, new armors and weapons, and more. Today, we’ll talk a bit about some new advanced controller options on the way, the new Super Fiesta social playlist, Waypoint File Browser, and other tidbits. Let’s get to it.

Last weekend, you eliminated over 147 million enemies over the course of hundreds of thousands of matches in the Warzone Firefight Beta. You have left the Warzone team with thousands of feedback posts as well as a multitude of data points that are undergoing analysis. Since the beta, the design team has been reviewing your feedback on difficulty, rounds, and objectives, and actively planning updates to the mode. Here’s a quick bit from David Ellis:

DAVID ELLIS, MULTIPLAYER DESIGNER

Anytime we put something out there for the community to experience for the first time, there’s always a sense of trepidation. Launching an experience as a beta only heightens that feeling. Now that we’re a few days out from the Warzone Firefight Beta, the first thing we’d like to say to the community is THANK YOU. Watching you answer the call to fight alongside your fellow Spartans against the myriad of enemies arrayed against you while completing your objectives has meant so much to everyone who has contributed to Warzone Firefight. Your feedback and the learnings from the data created by the thousands and thousands of hours of your effort are already going up on whiteboards and in Word docs around the studio as we begin to make plans to iterate, tweak and balance the Warzone Firefight experience as we drive towards the launch later this year. Your passion is what continues to drive our studio’s efforts each and every day.

WAYPOINT FILE BROWSER

Just yesterday, the new Waypoint File Browser arrived, and it brings the ability to find and share your favorite maps, game modes, and even screenshots and game clips. You can also view trending game clips, map variants, and game variants, sorted by most bookmarked. If you’re looking for some new custom games to try out with a group of friends, jump onto the File Browser and send the bookmarks straight to your console, so that they’re waiting for you when you get home. Just like your friends.

To read more about the File Browser, head here. As mentioned previously, the team also continues to build Halo 5’s in-game File Browser, and we’ll be sure to provide updates as we get closer to that release.

(EVEN MORE) ADVANCED CONTROLLER SETTINGS

The sandbox team has been hard at work to seamlessly integrate more advanced controls options into Halo 5, and if you currently like your sensitivity setting, you need not read any further. However, if you’re curious about toying with some advanced control, do read on. Here’s David Pashute with more details.

DAVID PASHUTE, SENIOR SANDBOX ENGINEER:

New to the Memories of Reach release is an advanced controller option to adjust the horizontal and vertical look sensitivities independently. Pressing "A" on the look sensitivity setting will cause it to expand and show the two new fields just below: Horizontal and Vertical Look sensitivity.

The first thing you might notice here is that the two new settings do not appear to match numerically. Don’t be alarmed, there is nothing wrong and nothing has changed. Your current settings will be exactly the same as before the update, it just reflects the under-the-hood adjustments that we made to the ratios for Halo 5 in order to accommodate a number of factors, e.g. a reduction in aim assist and an increase in verticality.

One interesting thing to note is that if you do make these settings match numerically then you’ll have the look sensitivity ratio of previous Halo titles.

If you change the new settings to a ratio combination that does not match the defaults we created for launch, then the main look sensitivity setting will be displayed as ‘Custom’:

You can always get back to these default ratios by simply adjusting the main look sensitivity setting again. Changing that will automatically update the horizontal and vertical settings together.

Last but not least, we’ve also added half step values for horizontal and vertical sensitivity. These are only available via the new settings and allow for even finer adjustments. If you couldn’t previously decide whether you were a 3 or a 4, you can now use half step adjustments on horizontal and vertical sensitivity to change your sensitivity to 3.5.

INFECTION LOOMS

If you are reading this, you are most undoubtedly aware that Infection is on the way. To hold you over, here’s a few more in-progress screenshots of the Infection maps that are being playtested as we speak. Stay tuned for looks at more community-created Infection maps, too.

TEAM ARENA UPDATE

Over the past few weeks, the multiplayer team has been reviewing your feedback on Team Arena as it pertains to weapon layouts, game type lineup, and more. Today, we’ve pushed out an update to bring Team Arena map / game type layout closer to the HWC list of maps and game types, with a few exceptions - most notably a few Assault variants, as Team Arena is currently the only place to play the game type, and the fact that Assault (with some adjustments based on feedback from pro players, particularly in regards to spawning) is being discussed as a potential tournament game type in the future. This is the first step towards an updated Team Arena that mirrors the official tournament game type set.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be working with top players on their feedback for updates to the overall map / game type layout and weapon layouts on said maps as we approach the summer season of the HCS Pro League. To ensure that enough time is given to determining the final map / game type combinations as well as the map layouts, we’re planning on rolling out updates in the following manner:

  • Today, April 22: Team Arena playlist updated.

  • Today through May 9: The 343 team is working with pro players and teams on feedback to the overall map / game type list as well as weapon layout updates for the summer season.

  • May 9: Team Arena updated to all map / game type combinations as well as new map layouts that are being considered for HCS Pro League Summer Season. We’ll continue to gather feedback and make adjustments during this time. As a note, HWC game types will still be available in Custom Games during this time for those still aiming to qualify through the LCQ.

  • May 23: Through discussions with pro teams and players, the final list of maps & game types for the summer season will finalized and Team Arena will be updated with the locked list. Team Arena will mirror the official maps and game types for the HCS Pro League and Open Circuit.

This timeline will give you an idea of what to expect for Team Arena over the next month, and we’ll continue to provide additional specific details about maps, game types, and weapon layouts as we continue to iterate based on input from pro players. As always, thank you for your feedback.

That’ll do for this week, friends. Be sure to tune into this week’s Pro League Invitational at PAX East – after the four members of the 2nd place Team Allegiance parted ways, their invite into Pro League took a twist, and resulted in a 4-team qualification tournament, where only one victor will emerge. Which player has joined or assembled the best squad for Pro League? We’ll find out this Sunday, as only one team will be crowned champions and invited to Pro League. For more details, head here. The shows starts at 11:30 AM ET Sunday on Twitch.tv/Halo.

Until next time,

Bravo

p.s. I thought you might like the look of these.

The level of post launch support is unprecedented for Halo, especially with all of it being free. I certainly don't mind grinding for REQ packs if it means the spoiled kids literally fund my DLC ;)

I think when its all said and done over the years, Halo 5 will be known to have the best multiplayer since Halo 2/3. The amount of updates, playlist additions, and contrast between hyper competitive Arena and chaotic Warzone will show everyone in time.

The campaign has more to be desired, but people forget that Halo 2 had one hell of a cliffhanger, and Arbiter was originally protested because it meant not playing more as Chief.

Great thread, nice to see all updates as they come.

Older and wiser. Still bias and proud though ;)

Why isn't Halo Reach on the survey? Because I wanted to pick that. Any Halo lore fan worth thewir salt would pick Reach. Allow me to release my Halo nerd trivia lol:

- Brutes and drones had no place during the invasion. This was because Drones are regulated to being the maintenance workers aboard Brute ships (because Prophets forbid them to have Huragok/Engineers) and because this takes place before the Great Schism. The Elites would do no such thing as let the Brutes share in the glory of a ground invasion alongside them. Their addition was to add in enemy variety but Bungie disregarded the canon in doing so. Source: Novel Contact Harvest

- Spartan 3's were supposed to be super top secret. As a even more ethical PR disaster then Spartan 2's were, these soldiers were bred by the hundreds, induced premature puberty, given rushed training, and sent on suicide missions. Their existence was only known to privileged members of ONI and high admiralty. They should have reported to ONI officers, namely Kurt, or Ackerson. Anyone else would violate their secrecy. This is especially wrong to include a S2 in their company....as S2's were public knowledge. S2's and S3's never met until after the events of Halo 3....until Reach contradicted this. This was likely to make the teams meeting with Halsey more impactful, but if Bungie took care of their lore, Jorge had no place with that company. Source: Novel Ghosts of Onyx.

- Covenant Supercarrier elaborate plot to destroy it. This plan to deliver a slipspace engine into the ship and set it off is inherently dangerous....and completely unnecessary. Reach is the human military capital among its colonies. It is said that dozens, if not ships numbering just over 100, orbit Reach at any given time. The game made it seem like Reach orbital fleets were non-existant and only had a few ships to spare. In reality, the Supercarrier, once exposed, would have been ganged up on by the MAC rounds of the fleet, as well as the orbital MAC cannons, within minutes. Source: Halo Fall of Reach novel

- Ships warping in, inside the orbit of the planet. After the supercarrier was destroyed, many Covenant ships just warp in, in orbit. This is a direct contradiction to the novel, where the fleet warped in far outside the kill radius of the orbital MAC cannons, and thus proceeded to charge them, destroy them, and then land parties. The ships warping behind the cannons also makes no cannon sense in that the ships didn't even know how to until after Halo 1 events. After Halo #4 blew up and Chief made his journey to Earth, a covenant AI recorded Cortana doing an in-orbit jump, something Covenant ships did not do before, presumably for convoluted religious reasons by the prophets. Only then did Covenant learn to slipspace jump inside a planets atmosphere....and behind any orbital defenses. Source: Halo Fall of Reach/Halo First Strike novels.

Then there's the minor complaint on how the Reach satellites, radar scanners, and AI's monitoring the planet let ANY covenant past their defenses at all, let alone set up any camp, cloaked or no cloak.

Oh....and how its multiplayer made things unbalanced and took away from the competitive aspect that Halo 2 and 3 strived to achieve. That too ;)

Finally someone gets it :) but super fiesta is great

I want more Warzone FF! It was great fun but ended to soon, they should up the difficulty and length of each round and maybe implement a number of lives per round and it will turn out to be the perfect FF. Its already the best in the series but it can be improved upon :).
