Forums - Sales Discussion - I've a good way to estimate digital sales on consoles!

Lol, 50-80k was just a number off the top like your 500k number was. And you get way too defensive to have a serious debate anyways. I don't believe that your technique is pretty accurate, and I gave my reasons why. Now if you believe otherwise, then fine. As I've said, I really don't care about the sales number of Infamous specifically and I don't even care for that franchise nor do I have any interest in it. I came here to debate wether or not your technique is good, not if infamous second sond sold 75k or 180k or 300k. And in my opinion, this methodology has a way too big error margin to be even considered as an acceptable methodology.

I mean, how can you prove that it's only 10% of digital owners that rated Destiny? How can you prove that it wasn't 20 or 30%? Or even 50%. How can you prove that it's only 10% of Second Son owners that rated the game? Etc. It doesn't mean that 1 game got rated by a certain % of people that every other game on the PSN shop got rated by only 10% of owners.

The only thing you got going for your methodology is that you can say that "X game sold a minimum of X copies due to X number of ratings on the psn shop". But you really can't go beyond that in MY OPINION.

Anyways, I gave my OPINION. Now I'm out of this thread for good. I really don't care if you don't like my opinion and it's not going to change until we have some proof to back up this way to estimate digital sales.

if you don't want to have a serious debate don't post. I was suggesting we get a list of confirmed digital sales or percentage digital and confirmed total sales and compare to the ratings. Thus getting an average and idea of the margin of error. At least this way we'll be able to say with some certainty this game likely sold between for example "300-400k" digital copies. I had the idea and don't claim for it to be accurate. WHat I want to do is get help from others and make a table. I take you won't be helping anyway. You'd rather just be vry useful and tell us how accurate it is!

I'm a marketing student and I actually like the efforts you put in your research/theory. Keep up your work and sharpen it, you might find something valuable at the end. Don't listen to the haters, but at the same time don't ignore their coments.

Square Enix said this year that 33% of their console sales are digital. GTA 5 PS4 has massive digital sales. Another big title recently had 20% digital. I think you're severly under estimating PS4 digital.

Came across this ages ago but only signed up recently so never got to say it.

You can look that numbers up but a few months back Minecraft announced how many digital copies they'd sold on the PS3 store. It sounded like a lot so I went onto the site and checked the number of ratings it had. It worked out that for every 50 people that bought it (roughly) 1 of them rated it.

This is only 1 game but if you matched up officail numbers for known games and checked their ratings I'm sure we could find a god average.

The likes of infamous second son have 10k ratings on the store so would it make sense if that game had 500k downloads? Anyway this IMO is our best way to estimate digital sales for a game.

Destiny PS4 has around 6k ratings I think so that prob has a good 300k digital copies sold.

Maybe archive the sales in a thread and see if it adds up upon announcements. However how many announcements do they make about Digital? Wouldn't think many.
