Forums - Gaming Discussion - Amazing combat moments in games?

HEY!

What are some of your favourite gameplay combat moments in games?

Perferbly stuff that is NOT scripted, setpiece wise but rather unpredictable. So no "awesome levels" but rather moments where the game throws regular kind of enemies at ya, with already known combat, but still manages to make it ..."unexpectedly" amazing.

Is there even such a thing?

Here's an example on my part:

I would add 2 parts from God of War 3. First one is on Hera's Garden when you get to a closed corridor with two satyrs, that are pretty much the most unpredictable enemies in the game and the only ones that exceed your own agility:

Second would be the closed space where you fight the Hell Cerberus and he comes with waves made of pairs of enemies (if I'm correct, two normal guys, two syrens and then two satyrs). I like this part because in Chaos mode you actually have to use a lot of strategy. Let the big strikes from the Cerberus hit the enemies and do the damage. When the satyrs spawn, you are in a bad situation. But satyrs are basically enemies that like to counter, so you have to be careful to not hit them and that will make them less aggressive so you can finish the Cerberus first.

Pandora's box room on GoW1 with the conveyor belts...ON GOD MODE!!! The harpies that have that unblockable comet attack and those DAMN exploding arrows! God I hated that! I have never come as close to crying as on that level lol and then when I did beat it after about 75-100 deaths I was so happy I did cry lol. Rest of the game felt like a breeze after that. Oh a big part of why it was so difficult was because I had NO magic going in. The reason that happened is because after playing through the game so many times I KNEW that room was coming up and THOUGHT that they would give me magic and health before going in...apparently NOT!

I remember this one not the first.  After Satrs and the dog with unlimited health Zeus seems like a panzy lol

I too loved the first one of GoW3, the second was a bit urk. Even when deploying the tactic, it felt like too much was being thrown at ya XD (still finished it though but barely, on titan). The satyrs are awesome!

The first time you go into Old Haven in Borderlands. It's really hard, as you don't know where the enemies are patrolling or will spawn from when you get close. They're also some of the toughest in the game relative to what you've encountered, as you probably won't have the best selection of weapons yet. I loved it. I'd often just go back and clear it for the fun of it.

Mowing through 100 enemies without breaking my combo in Arkham City.

The Daeadlus' Labyrinth was pretty sick. In GOW God/Titan/Chaos mode, the most difficult parts aren't usually the bosses, but some big enemies and waves of smaller ones. I swear that that damn Cerberus has more health than a boss. It's literally 20 minutes hitting the damn thing to kill it.

This was completely evil. Ares on GOW1 was probably the hardest boss in the maximum difficult in the entire franchise. It's funny, but he always felt like the most powerful of the gods in the game, Zeus didn't looked nowhere near as tough.

I have been playing Shadow of Mordor and some of the executions are amazing. They did an awesome job making the game feel over-the-top "epic". Sort of like the first time you played God of War 3. It's a must play if you like the Arkham games, Assassin's Creed, or Dynasty Warriors. It is basically the good parts of all 3 of those games smashed into 1 game. Now as for best combat moments ever. Honestly the Quake games. Especially 1 and 3. It is such nonstop awesome acrobatic kills that those games never get boring, even decades later.
