Forums - PC Discussion - Blizzard:Your physical copy is useless paper weight.Sorry, you can't play the game you bought.

I finaly bought Starcraft 2 heart of swarm.Doesn't work.

I put dvd in, it starts Blizzard updater,Battle net.Doesn't patch, doesn't install, doesn't work.

I have been trying to fix this problem about a week now.I'm IT professional actually..I know sometimes you have problems with games, but this is just horrible..

Anyway been connectin to Blizzard support, trying and doing everything they told me..Now they sent me this message:

Hello Jaakko.

I understand there is an issue with installing starcraft 2? It sounds like you are trying to install the game from the disc. We no longer install the game that way and we now use the desk top app and you can download that from here. https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/battlenet-desktop-application .

Make sure you are using a wired connection also be sure that all of the computers drivers are up to date. The net work card and the Graphics card were both out of date and you are using a wireless connection so once you get it wired and update the network and Graphics card you should be fine. There were some issues with the path ping and tracert that you sent to us showing packet loss on hope four long before it reaches us.

That will take you some time to do so make sure you update everything and get a wired connection and then use the inBattle.net app to install the games.

App that doesn't work. And for some reason, need wired conecction.I can at the moment use wireless only.So I can't play the game.Even after few days of oing all other shit, like yes updating every single driver, enabling full rights trough firewalls etc..I just wasted my money.

I mean this is Blizzard, for heavens sake..NOT EA.

Oh and yeea some of my friends say theyr updater works fine no problems etc, maybe I am 1%.But for some reason doesn't work on me..I wouldn't mind playing little buggy single player campaing.

This is the future eh..

Ridiculous.

Welcome to the future. Pretty soon, all of our physical media is going to be collecting dust while we weep for the days when we actually owned the things we play.

Fucking stupid. .....

I hate technology.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

This is why I don't trust Digital DLs... What happens if I want to buy a game and for some unknown reason I want to play it at a later point in my life and somehow the HD where my games are get erased, and I either lose the code or the game is too old be to Downloaded now? How will I play the game?

I say this because I bought Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance release date, and I actually ended up playing it 5 1/2 years later... So now I am forced to play games and finish them as soon as I buy them??

The future is a dark one, indeed...

That is pretty bad! I could swear that when Sc2 launched, Blizzard's moto was that the key would be ur only drm in the sense that there is no other drm outside the cd key but I guess it changed :/

I am playing sc2 perfectly but man, that sucks dude!

Edit: Did you try disabling ur internet connection to see if that works? Cause it might just force install via offline mode

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Pirate the game.
Seriously.
You've paid for it, now download a version that actually works for you.

This is PC gaming, I remember a report saying 92% of game sales on PC were digital in 2013.  On consoles its not anywhere close to that, hell its not anywhere close to half of that.  PC gaming does not give insight on the future of physical media on consoles.

OT: That is stupid that they would even continue selling the retail version if they no longer support it, unless the copy has been sitting on the store shelf for a really long time, which I doubt.

Blizzard has been full online for quite awhile now. Its actualy pretty neat, all theyre games are tied to one launcher and you can acess them from the same hub, see news and update. It generates some inconviniences like this one youre reporting but this is because Starcraft 2 was launched before the transition, future Blizzard games will have only digital versions.

The future? I didn't even know PC games had been sold any other way than digitally for about 7 or 8 years now.

It sounds to me like the OP bought a CD which contained an installer app, this is something that has been standard for years now; and no this isn't an EA thing, this is something that Blizzard started doing with Warcraft 3 or WoW a LONG time ago.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
