Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo hates money and these four games prove it

1) Metroid games, unfortunately, as much as I would love this to be otherwise, have never sold incredibly well. Not poorly; pretty much every game in the series is a million units plus, but never on par with Mario/Zelda/Pokemon, and usually they aren't even on par with the middle tier of sales like Donkey Kong or Kirby. A Metroid game on the Wii U, a system struggling like it is, wouldn't somehow print money.

2) Wow Pokemon Snap really?

3) Nintendo systems haven't exactly been lacking in Mario, Sonic, or Mario + Sonic games recently. Trying to fuse them into one strange platforming mess (not even sure how that would work) wouldn't somehow make things take off.

4) This one's actually a feasible boost to console sales, but it would require a good bit of commitment on Nintendo's part to running servers and stuff, online being a realm that has never been Nintendo's forte. I have to wonder if Nintendo's worried about what releasing an MMO would do to future sales of Pokemon games as well. Might be not wanting to trade short term gain for long term loss rather than a simple hatred of money. I dunno.

Two out of the four game ideas in the title article are bad moves that likely won't pan out... but I agree a new Metriod game and a sequel to Pokemon Snap would sell.

The problem with both is that they would require more man power and effort then I think current Nintendo leadership likes to see used on games not featuring heavy influence of characters from the Mario or Zelda or even Kirby franchises.

I dont know about yall but everytime i hear mmo and pokemon, it makes me think of world of warcraft. It just seems like a bad idea to me.

I dunno, I think snap could be made on the cheap and be a nice offering for the system.
It's a classic unisex all ages game, like nintendogs, etc.

The Pokemon MMO would run Nintendo into the ground.

lol such a bad article but the dude from Twinfinite is getting attention for better or worse -_-

No one cares about Metroid anymore, it would not sell more than 600 or 700K.

Pokemon Snap would be interesting, but I don't see anyone paying a lot for it. It wouldn't make much money.

A Mario vs Sonic Platformer is as unreasonable as saying a Mario Kart vs. F-Zero racer, or a Starcraft vs Zelda crossover. They could do it, but one side or the other is going to be completely dissimilar to the original franchise, and it will just come off as a cheap attempt at a cash grab. Nintendo already has executed better ideas for crossover games like Smash and M&S Olympics.

A Pokemon MMO is not exactly a game Nintendo can just whip out in a year or two, this would take several years of development.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Meh, all those are B-list on Nintendo home console. They would sell profitably no doubt but none of those games individually or collectively would "get them[selves] out of this mess as they have done in the past."

And how exactly have they got themselves out of a mess in the past? The only way they got themselves out of a mess was to release a whole new console called Wii, with games that included none of the above driving huge amounts of sales.

In terms of game sales Metroid must be one of the weakest Nintendo franchises. The only way to get huge sales from Metroid would be for Nintendo to finally show Samus's naked boobies at the end of the game. But then in this day and age that money shot would be on the interwebs within a day of the game launching, so maybe not even then.

I think there is a major difference between a Pokemon RPG with online elements (think a blend of Fable 2 and Pokemon for handhelds) and a Pokemon MMO. The latter is simply not feasible on the current WiiU online system, and if developed and unsuccessful could do enormous and potentially irreparable damage to Nintendo. A Pokemon RPG on WiiU could have a defined budget, limited scope with a single player or co-op focus, and be highly successful if done well.

Still, its a risk.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

I seriously want a new Pokemon Snap game for the Wii U, it just baffles me that Nintendo hasn't done so.
