Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Capcom and their Wii "tests" - What are they storing for us Wii owners?

It is such a strange situation that the Wii finds itself in in relation to third party support. During the Gamecube era I would get really pumped if the Cube had a sales spike because I thought it would result in more quality third party titles. The PS2 had such mammoth support and I won't lie, it made me jealous like nothing on earth (I bought one though eventually). Now the Wii is raking in sales that a Nintendo fan would not have even dreamed of during the GCN era, yet third parties ignore the system as, dare I say it, a serious competitor.

It is almost as if there is some sort of...I don't know, discrimination of sorts against Nintendo's home console division that is stopping third parties from going all-out on the system. I get the feeling they aren't interested in working on a technically inferior home console and just hope the machine will fade away so they can blow millions of dollars on high-risk, possibly company-killing efforts for the "next gen" systems. Where is all the support from Japanese third parties? Their business models fit the Wii perfectly - low development costs mean they can take risks on niche titles and ideas. It makes no sense that they wouldn't embrace the system. I keep hearing developers say that third party titles haven't sold well on the machine, but they are using piles of trash as examples!! The installed base continues to explode (albeit every second week with stores stockpiling and continued shortages), games like Sonic and the Secret Rings, Resident Evil 4, RE:UC, MySims, Dragon Quest Swords and many others have shown strong sales, the development costs are massively lower than on rival home consoles; there is no reason (read: NO EXCUSE) for all third party developers not to be going bull-at-a-gate at the Wii!

Third parties are scared to compete against Nintendo produced games on Nintendo platforms. It's never going to change. Capcom, Square Enix, and Konami try, but most developers just don't care to give any real effort.

PS3:

* Bionic Commando - Umm we've all been waiting for this game for awile now
* Dark Void - If you don't know check out this video

* Devil May Cry 4 - Good game, great selling - Yep
* Lost Planet - Overated, sorry but it is.
* Resident Evil 5 - I want to be excited but I have nothing against Haitians. Seriously this game seems so racist to me. - You are excited and disapointed its not coming to the Wii

Wii:
* Monster Hunter 3 - One of Capcoms key JPN franchises. - Not so good outside of JPN
* Ōkami - Remake of a great game most haven't played. - Remake
* Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles - Wii getting the PS2 treatment
* Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition - Remake of a great game, better than the original. - Remake
* Resident Evil Zero - Argh. - Not going to leave JPN, thank god
* Sengoku Basara 2 - Devil Kings - Never played it. - Probably not going to leave JPN
* Sengoku Basara X- Devil Kings - Never played it. - Probably not going to leave JPN
* We Love Golf! - Promising, Wii + Love in the title + Capcom character = Everybody's golf killer? - Golf, geez
* Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure - One of my favorite games ever. - Great game

360:
* Bionic Commando - Don't forget about the NES HD remake.
* Dark Void - See above video
* Dead Rising - Fun. But the save point really suck
* Devil May Cry 4
* Lost Planet
* Resident Evil 5

If only Nintendo had put a little more power in the Wii, then this would not even be a discussion.

No, I think the game is racist, I am sure if you went back far enough you could find some posts when I still owned my PS3 saying this... nevermind I found it myself...

I still don't understand why they couldn't make an African hero? I mean, wouldn't that make more sense any way and complicate the story in a good way (like the original RE). The character was fighting people from their own town and own country. There is that moral dilemma, "these are people I knew."

I liked RE4, and it was the story best in the way it was told, but it wasn't the most compelling. The hero had no regrets about having to kill back woods Spaniards.

More reasons why this game is going to suck,
1. Stereotype: "White aid worker, trying to help the poor Africans" - Reality: "Africans have given up on trying to get real aid from the west, the AU is leading the way for African nations helping one another."
2. Capcom executive: "Hey, Um, the RE creator quit..."
Capcom executive 2: "Well, lets copy RE4, put it in another country"
3. The big deal is light... LIGHT. What ever happened to good level design, believability, progressing the actual gameplay. Light is a cool addition, but the big feature. Come on.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

These "tests" aren't tests: they're a way to make a quick buck while Capcom develops bigger games... most likely also for the Wii.

 This. For now Capcom is one of the best third-party for Wii, IMO.

If that's so, then why do the GBA and DS have such good third party support?

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

BS. MH sells best in Japan so they took a look at Japan PS3 numbers then compared to Japan Wii numbers and saw Wii was the better fit.

 I call BS on your BS. MH is traditionally a Playstation franchise. It's not about the size of the installed base but the likelyhood that enough of that installed base buying your game. There's no way Capcom was afraid of MH3 flopping on the PS3, after they saw MH portable selling extremely well on the PSP but high dev cost might offset the revenue collected. Not to mention a Capcom exec explicitly saying that due to high dev cost, they decided to make it for the Wii instead.
