Sony announced 10M sold back in the beginning of August during Gamescom. And the super duper really really extra emphasized that it was sold to the consumer, not just sold to retail.

Then, the week of Destiny, they have the highest sales they've seen since Christmas. You mean to tell me in this 2 month span, they've only sold 1M? That would mean that, not including Destiny week, they only sold around 500K in 7 weeks (4 weeks in August, 3 non-Destiny September weeks). That's an average of 71K a week....something even VGC themselves aren't showing, despite ioi saying "we won't adjust the numbers until we find out how they came about".

My stance is that just because you can't figure out why 2 + 2 =  4 doesn't make it stop equaling 4. Don't continuously be wrong to, I dunno, save face? VGC adjusts after we get official shipments/sold amounts from MS/Sony/Nintendo, and when we get NPD, Chart Track, etc. So why aren't they doing it with PS4? They went back and adjusted the 360 by MILLIONS (note: plural, I believe it was 80M --> 82M) when they got more recent shipment data. Why didn't ioi say "we're not adjusting til we understand where the numbers came from", then? No, they just accepted that 360 was undertracked and made the adjustment pretty much immediately.

So, being off by only like...6-700k at the time (I think VGC had PS4 at 9.3-9.4M when Sony announced 10M sold to consumer) and now it's about "figuring out where the numbers came from"? I don't get it. Why is VGC "holding hostage" the PS4 numbers? Precedent shows that they adjust when they get new data....like you should do in every facet of life.

I don't know if they still do this but Vgchartz have VGchartz pro that allows business' to pay a yearly fee to access all the data. I wonder if anyone took it up and if so they obviously had no idea that the data they were paying for were guesstimates. I've been visiting this site since 2007 and at this stage the only thing that keeps me here is this forum. The prices being asked for below are crazy given the accuracy or lack of.

Yeah VGChartz tracking of the PS4 is horrible, how can you keep under tracking the PS4 by so much?

I haven't been posting long, but lurking for a while, 1M+ always seemed pretty apparent before adjustments.

I think PS4's probably either hit or gone above 12M at this point.

I don't believe that excuse at all. They gave the 360 over 1 million imaginary numbers in Germany but won't do it for the PS4? It's common knowledge that the PS4 is undertracked on here for ASIA for starters and probably most of the EU.

WHat were the reasons behind VGchartz being banned on neogaf anyway?

From what I understand (never actually asked since the mere mention of this can get you banned on GAF), but ioi used to have an account there and often posted data that inflated 360 numbers to make it look better. Eventually, the mods got pissed and just banned it, so they banned ioi's new site as well to make sure the numbers didn't come back (VGC).

This is why I find the disparity between treatment of Xbox numbers and PS numbers to be somewhat telling. Not qutie a conspiracy theories when it seems we have at least some facts to back up the assertion.

Did you mean to reply to someone else because nothing you just said pertains to my comment.

I mean I just said that Sony should just give their numbers to this site because it obviously doesn't have reliable numbers. Wouldn't hurt them to do so.

Well, when they announced officially 10M sold to the consumers that really should count as giving the number to this site. VGC just ignored an official announce and called it a day.

I'm very curious to see how off VGC is going to be when Sony announces that they sold 15 million PS4s.

Thanks for putting in all that work. I would love to see a regional break down, since I keep hearing it's a little over in the US that would mean it has to be even more under elsewhere.

Fascinating. Do you have links to any of those threads on there?

FWIW I enjoy VGC and do not intend to attack the site, but it is pretty obvious that regardless of intent the PS4 numbers and Xbox numbers are regularly mistracked (not always, but 'often' enough to be a trend) in opposite directions. X1 was overtracked, and PS4 undertracked.

I just bear that in mind and it's useful to form an accurate analysis by contrasting VGC numbers with NPDs.

We're all human, we all have biases whether we admit it or not. I am somewhat ambivalent towards Sony and negative towards Microsoft myself.

I would guess spot on to 1 million undertracked.

We already -know- that they undertrack the PS4, but the question is by how much. I doubt it is undertracked by over a million, but it's still a pretty bad situation.

The Xbone is traditionally overtracked by VGChartz, but we cannot verify if that is still the case because MS are really shy about their comparatively low sales. It's a bit annoying to get so little info on the matter.
