Forums - General Discussion - Looking for a new Anime

For a fan service anime with some actual plot instead of just 'plot' I enjoy the Tenchi Muyo series.
Mixes sci fi with harem but the the seasons are short and leave a lot of story to be desired.

If its anything like the manga, Akame go Kill starts of good but slowly decreases in quality.

Terra formars is something new too, and I enjoy the manga but again the quality is fading. It is about man missions to mars in search of results from humanity's terra forming experiments but instead find a race of evolved cockroaches that kill humans without hesitation. So the first arc is about the astronauts trying to survive, while the second arc is them going back to mars to find a cure for a deadly virus on Earth.... also people have super powers from bugs....

I know a ton of people will suggest mid to high tier anime but if you would like to see some underrated/hidden gem animes i suggest these as i enjoyed them. Only thing with some is i just wished they were 52+ episodes :-/

Anyway...

♥Symphogear: An anime thats definitely unique. Has alot of really good OST and the show kinda is focused around singing (but has a ton of battles). Its a personal favorite underrated of mine.

★ Speed Grapher: Want a mature and wild anime? This has a pretty bizarre setting. Its about a photographer that stumbles onto an underground organisation that has rich/powerful people conduct crazy activities. (gambling, sex, etc) While there the protagonist accidently gets a virus (or something like that) from a girl which curses him of exploding anything he captures with his camera (Yes camera).

I like your style! Speed Grapher sounds and looks like Baccano!

Symphogear looks good too. Any other suggestions? Maybe something less hyper-sexualized (but I care about a phychologically thrilling plot first).

You should try Mirai Nikki. Really very good and quite suspenseful with some decent plot twists

I saw it, this was a favorite of mine. Not a fan of the final ending, but I loved the twist just before it.

Death Note - Cat and mouse murder mystery with supernatural elements.
Mushishi - Wanderer researching and solving mysteries revolving around mushi (spirit-like creatures).
Paranoia Agent - Creepy psychological mystery, I honestly don't know how to describe this one.
Fate/Stay Night - Great action and mythos.
Noein - Time travel, I can't remember a lot about this one other than I really enjoyed it.

Seen all of these, not my style (except Death Note).

Terra Formars sounds amazing!

A lot of you guys recommended Aldnoah.Zero and Akame ga Kill!. Shinsekai yori looks amazing too.I'm going to watch those asap. I'm also going to look into JormungandBlast of tempest and Knights of Sidonia. Some of these look amazing, right up my ally. Thanks. Let me know if there are others which you think I should try.

P.S. I tried Psycho Pass, I couldn't get into it. It wasn't bad, just i dunno.

BTW another one I forgot to mention that was really really good - Deadman Wonderland. I also liked Planets, but it's more of a drama.

Eureka 7 is a nice anime. Mecha with very little focus on the tech (or the combat), it's largely character driven about a beautifully-played teen love story between a boy and... a not quite human girl.

If you want highly sexual with almost exclusively female actors: Queen's Blade.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Big O

Samurai Champloo - during the transition to modern japan. Kind of throws real historical instances into the plot but none could be called facts as to what happened in reality. Good action, good plot, pretty funny, but short series.(one of my favorites)

Wish I had more to suggest but most have already been thrown out there.

General Question I know, but I would like a few suggestions. I typically prefer more adult oriented horror/suspense anime, and I want something new (since I likely haven't seen it). Some of my favorites are:

Attack on Titan
Baccano!
Black Lagoon
Claymore
Code Geaus
Cowboy Bebop
Dragon Ball Z
Elfin Lied (Favorite)
FullMetal Alchemist
Ghost in the Shell
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (Not a fan of the other Gundam series)

I don't like over the top comedies like Kill la Kill and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (But I loved High School of the Dead). I'm looking at starting Monster up, but it's a bit old. I'm also a fan of highly sexual anime, but only when the female characters have a strong role (like the Russian girl in Black Lagoon)

Thanks You, I appreciate the tips Try to name niche titles if you can

Why don't you like Kill la Kill?

Seriously, why don't you like Kill la Kill?

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?

Aldnoah Zero - Think the first arc is over, but this is one that will take you by surprise
Mahouka - Some great stuff here too (what the hell inda brother and sister shit is going on here???)
Broken Blade - Mechaction and deep, mature story... very mature story... only mech stuf that beats this is....
Knights of Sidonia - That no one has mentioned this is something I find shocking
Akame Ga Kill - This is a strange one, after every episode I keep telling myself it will be the last one I watch... keep coming back to it.

You gave great choices. I watched Broken Blade, I wouldn't say the story was mature at all, but it was good.

I just finished Knights of Sidonia, this is more mature, still childish, but I really love the atmosphere. Probably the only moderately well done super futuristic anime.

Watching Aldnoah Zero and Akame ga Kill now, and since everything you recommended is great Mahouka is on my list now too.

Any other suggestions?

Try Red Garden.

Its about 4 girls who died and got brought back to life to fight humans who turn to beasts...

You'd think its your regular kill em all anime but its got a deep story and a shit load of character development. Some would find it overly melodramatic, but if you think about it, its actually not. It starts real slow and gives you bits and pieces over the course of the series.

If you can get through the 1st few episodes and the silly singing parts, you'll apreciate it a lot.
