Forums - Sales Discussion - Chinese console market to surpass Japanese?

Gaming home consoles are in decline for a long time already in Japan, and isn't showing no sign of recovery anytime soon. Since Chinese government lifted the console ban its expected to gaming consoles to sell loads of units there. The combination of a huge middle class, growing economy, maybe internal games developed for the local audience, investment from the big 3 could make it a huge impact in console sales. What do you think ?

I don't know about software, maybe the devs should think a model more suited to China, like the subscription and freemium games(already big, but, fundamental in a market where people aren't used to buy software).

lol no

If all 3 console manufacturers release hardware in China, then within a decade it will be as big as Japan in terms of install base.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Wii U and PS4 have ~2m sold in Japan... quem do you thing China will sell 2 milion?

Nope

Highly unlikely with all those restrictions.

No, not yet. There is an article (I think Siliconera) that states black market console gaming is around 2-3 million estimate in China. Japan has already reached 2 mil this gen. So it has a long way to go.

50:50 Chance

Not now, but given population differences seems possible in a decade or so.

A good chance, especially for xbox. 5 years ago nobody would have guessed movies in China would gross almost of not more than their domestic counterparts.
