Infinite starters is a complete non-issue and totally legal.

  1. Go to the GTS and look for the starter you want. Trade for it.
  2. Go breed it.
  3. Repeat the first two steps.

Exactly. Half the point of Pokemon is trading with others. There is a reason they split each release into two versions, and it's not to sell two games to each kid.

Trading with someone else for a Pokemon you can't get in your save file is the intended way to play the game. Trading with yourself to get a Pokemon you can't get in one file is essentially an exploit... like setting up two accounts in a competitive game with leaderboards, and repeatedly defeating yourself to raise your ranking. That is how I believe GameFreak sees it: if you are avoiding the trading feature, you are cheating the system in a way.

For those of you who do not know why there are 2 versions and only 1 save file it was because Satoshi (the creator of pokemon) wanted us to experience his bug catching childhood through pokemon. He wanted everyone to take pride in their collection but also trade with others to complete the collection. he did it to encourage TRADING.

Seriously... this is common knowledge.

Exactly as you say. To get people to buy the other versions as well, especially effective for children that sometimes have to share consoles.

It cant possibly be that hard for gamefreak to prevent exploits like this. Just restrict the ability to trade to an account on the same game cartridge.

GREED!

I feel bad because I had to delete my brotheres file so I could start one. Its crazy that they expect siblings to each own their own copy of the game! :(

They also used to expect them to have their own systems and a link cable as well.

Um minus the link cable aren't we still doing this. Me, my bro and my sis all had a DS. Me and my sis both have our own 3DS now and own X and Y. Soon we will also have ORAS.

Nintendo probably continues to do it for the moola. However, people can decide to not be stupid/nostalgic/whatever else and just delete their old save. I did that many times as a kid.

Although I know that wouldn't work for everyone as some people are insane Pokémoners and probably have games filled with Pokémon that have insane stats and/or rare breeds.

Soon, a wild thread appears. "I bought this game for my two kids and they can't even trade with each other, this is bullshit why is Nintendo stuck in the dark ages." You can't please everyone.

Seriously, there's nothing wrong with one save file. If you want to start a new game, you have to give up your old save data. You have to be willing to make that sacrifice. In this modern era of gaming, everyone wants to have their cake and eat it (multiple times) too. What's wrong with turning your save data into something valuable, something that you feel bad about erasing? Erasing it gives you a clean slate, a fresh start, but you can't go back. It's not manipulative or lazy or anti-consumer. It's a part of the game's design.

Technically, now you can store your Pokemon in the Bank, and move them to your new save file. You can keep all of your mons from one file to the next. But nothing else.

People ought to savor their cake while they eat it.

Never heard this story before and I still nailed that shit.

Money. I love Pokemon to death, but this has been pissing me off since the first Pokemon game. They will never add new saves because they want people to buy multiple copies.

It's obviously for money and it sucks that they can get away with something like this. It's easily my biggest problem with Pokemon, even though I like the games a lot.

Because it's a portable game, who the hell are you sharing the game with?
