Forums - PC Discussion - How Rapidly PC Gaming is Increasing

There is a never ending war between PC Gaming and Consoles and users of both, the PC and Consoles, always keep arguing that which one is better. Consoles were considered to be favorite some years back but nowadays PC is thought to be the favorite for most of gamers. Well consoles also have their benefits, like you never need to upgrade it and it gives smooth gaming at HD quality at less price. But there are some limitations like you cannot enjoy 2k or 4k Resolutions nor can you exceed limited Frame Rates. So let's see some facts to know how fast PC Gaming is increasing.
Last year in December after some time of the release of XBOX One and Playstation 4, Steam crossed the number of 7 million concurrent users and in the end of June, just 6 months after reaching 7 million users, Steam had 8 million concurrent users which is a great proof of how rapidly PC Gaming is increasing. Recently Intel claimed that there are more than 700 million PC Gamers all around the world. Recently on 18th September Nvidia also hosted the first 24-Hour PC Gaming Event named as Game24 which also shows the efforts of Nvidia to take PC Gaming to the next level. We have also analysed financial reports of some important publishers including Ubisoft, Activision and EA.

As said earlier Ubisoft is one of the publishers who lost it's reputation due to delaying games. Ubisoft got more sales for PC in 1st Quarter of 2013 because of some exclusive titles. Then slowly the sales graph of PC started to fall. Then the release of Assassins Creed IV Black Flag and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist increased the sales on PC. Watch Dogs was the most anticipated game of 2014 and had great graphics on PC as compared to consoles. So it was thought that it will increase the income from PC genre but the total sales of Watch Dogs were much lower than what was expected.

Activision is also a famous publisher specially due to the Call Of Duty franchise. Activision have great sum of sales on Consoles because they publish more games for Consoles than PC. but still the growing number of sales in PC  shows the importance of PC. In first three Quarters of 2013 the sales on PC are constantly increasing but in Fourth Quarter of 2013 and first Quarter of 2014 the sales are not much because there wasn't any exclusive title for PC except Call Of Duty Ghosts.

The figures of EA also shows how PC gaming is improving by time. In First Quarter of 2013 company got revenue of 276 Million Dollars.  In second and third Quarters revenue from PC was lesser than before but in Fourth Quarter the things started coming back because of release of some important titles and in first Quarter of 2014 the revenue is much more than before.
These figures are not much because it only contains record from previous year but still it shows slow increase of PC Games sales and decrease in importance of Consoles.
These things give a clue of how rapidly PC Gaming is increasing specially the increasing number of users on Steam shows that PC will surely be the future of Gaming.
What do you think about PC Gaming or Consoles. Tell your thoughts in comments below.

I find Ubisoft's and Activision's 'other' sales to be a bit strange. That's one heck of a dive to nothingness in a single quarter.

In anycase, PC gaming is big enough. Even if it just remains stable at this level it's good enough for me.

The only thing that is increasing fast are the system requirements..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Its increasing at a steady pace. It won't set the world on fire but its clearly a market that cant be ignored as seen by many third party games, including Japanese ones, coming to PC

We are in transition between console generations. The old one's sales have lapsed off and the new one hasn't fully taken. I believe this qualifies as a confounding variable

PC gaming is a sizable market to be sure, especially since Steam arrived, but as time goes on consoles and PCs becomes more and more apples and oranges. They're similar markets and there's a lot of overlap, but the PC market has more F2P and MMO stuff because that is what PC architecture can do. Consoles favor single player content because that's what a console is designed for. The patterns here are almost entirely caused by these company's IP portfolios and how they fit into or overlap across these categories.

Anyone else remember back in 2005-2009 the whole gaming industry was always talking about how PC gaming was dying? funny now that you look back at it.

PC gaming has been dying since the late 90's...
