No most people who bought a wii, bought it becouse of the hype and the popularity of the device, those people are more likely to move towards the awful, )how dare you call it master' tablet and phone race.
Perhaps some will buy a PS4/Xone and a few will consider buying a U.
If Nintendo wants to achieve anything this gen the better promote smash and Zelda real good, so Xone/PS4 owners will consider a U as a secondary console.

We're talking about laggards though. Folks who likely bought the Wii back in 2010 and onwards - not in the early prime years of Wii's lifecycle (2006-2009). For whatever reason, they stuck with one console -- the Wii and have continued to buy games for it until now.

Yes and I believe those gamers are satisfied by the games on their tablets and phones so they probably won't buy a new console. Others will probably buy a PS4 instead of a Wii U, even though it's a pretty neat console.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Most of the people buying Just Dance and Skylanders for Wii are little kids. They're not moving on to the WiiU, they're going straight to smartphones.

Specifically which ones though?

If I had to guess, when the parents move onto a new phone/tablet - they give the old one to the children.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

my mom and sister will not be buying a wiiu. they got into the gimmick that is motion controls. that shitty gamepad sure as hell isnt going to convince them.

plus i doubt the old folks home will be upgrading to a wiiu.

That's like asking if the NES gamers will finally embrace the gamecube three years into its life.

We're not talking about your mom, sister, the old folks or any of the other people who bought games for the Wii in 2007. People like your family already moved on.

But there's this weird remnant of people who made Skylanders, Disney Infinity, and Just Dance multi million sellers in 2012, 2013 and beyond. That's who we're talking about. On a regular basis, they're perfectly happy to pay full retail for releases on a platform that is largely considered finished even among the Nintendo faithful.

nope, the ps4 is the true casual console now

How do you arrive at that conclusion?

PS4 sold the most games this gen yet it doesn't have any games, so it sold the most non-games i.e. casual games

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

but thats not what drove sales so high. that is what wiiu is lacking and that is why it will fail compaired to wii.

I dunno, I'd suspect the people who still play their original Wii today are probably extreme budget shoppers ... in other words they ain't buying any $300 console (not from Nintendo, Sony, or MS).

And really it may just be an issue where they like to play Just Dance once a week when they have family/friends over ... and the Wii does that just fine.

Why pay $300 to play the same game in HD? That audience doesn't care what resolution their game is in.

Beyond that I suspect they'd far rather spend that $300 on the new iPhone.

Good an intelligent answer.

I find it odd they'd exclusively own the cheapest, least expensive console on the market -- but buy games like Skylanders or Disney Infinity which *start* $70-$80 + for most starter sets and run $10-$15 per figurine. I suppose they believe they're killing two birds with one stone in that the figurines act both as gameplay content and an action figure. And perhaps they consider the figurines as substitutes to entirely new games too.

Where you and I might see a ripoff -- this customer sees value.
