Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Do you think the remaining Wii userbase will finally goto the Wii U this holiday?

Will they *ever* get a Wii U?

Yes -- most obvious choice 46 32.86%

No -- PS3/Xbox 360 will interest them more 3 2.14%

No -- PS4/Xbox One will interest them more 26 18.57%

No -- new gaming needs ar... 8 5.71%

No -- mobile tablet master race 57 40.71%

Total:140

...and I'm not talking about the early majority of Wii buyers -- we're talking the folks, who in the last year or two, have willingly bought Wii versions of Skylanders, Disney Infinity, Just Dance and scraped through the bargain bin for Lego games, movie/cartoon licensed-games, along with a couple Ninty games like MK Wii or NSMB Wii.

Current and upcoming releases of Skylanders, Just Dance,  Lego, Disney Infinity along with Ninty's own release schedule should by now give a very clear message to these laggards: support for the original Wii is gone -- time to to move onto another platform in the near future.  There are plenty of carrots out there for them to convert to the Wii U.

-An exclusive Lego title, along with several newer releases Lego game releases that have not come to the Wii

-An additional Wii U download code provided in the Wii version of Skylanders Trap Team

-Absence of Disney Infinity 2.0 on Wii, Disney Infinity 1 is free on Wii U and works with the Wii peripherals

-Additional game modes and content for Just Dance on Wii U vs Wii

-Ninty's best new console content is on Wii U

-Retail stock/selection of Wii games is dwindling

I figure these kinds of consumers to be laggards. They've opted for a more affordable console with an established selection of titles available for a cheaper price. To this point obviously haven't cared that the content is HD or not. However, when there are no more titles available for them on the Wii, what will they do?

I feel as if they don't go for the Wii U, they may go for the 360 or PS3 for similiar reasons as they got the Wii in the first place. Otherwise, there's other reasons of course they may go for X1 or PS4 instead. Additionally, it may be the case the gaming needs are met by 3DS or even iOS/Android...

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

No, Nintendo failed to market the Wii U properly. Obviously they wouldn't get all 100 million people to invest in their new console, but they failed to get the message out and appeal to those casuals who might have still had an interest in gaming and had been familiar with NIntendo and the Wii to buy another console. It's doubtful that anything not already out by now will get their attention as there is already at least 1 of their major franchises out already.

Mario---New Super Mario/New Luigi, Super Mario 3d World Plus Mario Kart 8
Zelda---- Hyrule Warriors, Wind Waker HD
Donkey Kong--- Tropical Freeze
Wii--- Sports, Party, Fit

Plus Disney Infinity, Skylanders, Lego Games, Game and Wario, Mario and Sonic, Exclusives like Sonic Lost World and Wonderful 101.

It's been 2 years now and so far they got only about 7% of what they got on their previous console, it's clear they they messed up somewhere. They seemed content that Wii with a U after it was all they needed. It has games but still doesn't sell. And it's to expensive for the casuals, nobody is going to throw $300 plus at something that is only going to get use at parties and with their friends when the Wii still works just fine if they even still use it and with PS3 and 360.

Wii U is done.

Maybe but those kids are growing up and will probably just get a PS4.

No most people who bought a wii, bought it becouse of the hype and the popularity of the device, those people are more likely to move towards the awful, )how dare you call it master' tablet and phone race.
Perhaps some will buy a PS4/Xone and a few will consider buying a U.
If Nintendo wants to achieve anything this gen the better promote smash and Zelda real good, so Xone/PS4 owners will consider a U as a secondary console.

Based on the games they are getting I would assume they are mostly children. So I think they are more likely to go to PS4 than Wii U. Most, if not all, of those games are also available on PS4 and I'm sure they will have friends that have PS4s, so they will hear how great they are and probably try them out there.

The PS4 is certainly riding high on the bandwagon effect, but not necessarily because of these kinds of titles. Wii U to this point has outsold the PS4 on Skylanders. And while the Lego series generally has favored the PS4 being the best selling next gen version, the Lego Move Video game did in fact sell best on Wii U this year so far.

And ultimately it's  the parents' choice on what platform goes into the home. I'd figure they're pretty likely to go with the most affordable option as they probably don't necessarily consider Wii U, PS4, and X1 to be really that different.

Assuming interest in Amiibo is a given, the Nintendo should remain the platform of choice for this whole demographic.

I think they will at least be vastly more interested and aware of it/

It should sell well this holiday season but I doubt all of them will go for it. I m sure some are still waiting for zelda

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Everything is possible. WiiU will shine during the holidays but this is a hard question to ask.

Quite impossible. I believe even with a 8GB Wii U bundled with Wii Sports Club priced at $250 it could probably attract maybe 10%-15% of the casuals back.
