Forums - PC Discussion - Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Requires 6 GB VRAM for Ultra Quality Textures

The problem as others have pointed out is VRAM. With the PS4's 8GB of memory, it has a huge amount of VRAM since it's DDR5 and just the way the system is coded.

I have a reasonable 8GB of RAM (maybe dodgy RAM), but only 2GB of VRAM, which means I can't run these high end textures.

That's the main problem. The other is I like the idea of 4k...

I get it. But, as I said, the gap between 'medium' and 'ultra' isn't that big. An ordinary gamer can't barely tell it.

We'll have to wait for Digital Foundry for it but I don't think that the PS4's GPU can handle those ultra textures. More probably it'll use the medium settings (at max);  PS4 has the room but lacks in the raw power side and I don't know how the developers can optimize at this level.

You see, if this amount of VRAM is really required, neither an $500 VGA can handle it (R9 290X or GTX 780Ti) nor the newest GTX 980, so those high end textures are for trully enthusiastics.
