How did people not know Windows 8 would suck. It's always been this way. Every other one sucks. Think of those as the beta to see what the people are interested in.

Windows 98 and XP were both good.

There was Windows ME in between, so the pattern roughly fits the claim "every other one sucks".  The exact details are a bit muddled by the existence of the Windows NT line and Windows 2000.

Never even heard of Windows ME.

Lucky you.Still, I don't think 98 was all that bad although I do remember it crashing slightly more than 95.

I don't get MS sometimes. They went bad with Vista, then Windows 7 made things good again, now Windows 8 is like another Vista..

Sorry, but this is just pure ignorance. Comparing 8 to Vista is the most technologically illiterate thing I've heard all year.

While Vista was an unoptimized piece of crap, Windows 8 is in all technological aspects superior to Windows 7. The only thing people don't like is the new paint coat.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Once you accept Windows 8 and learn it properly, you'd know it's better than Windows 7. Of course, which you prefer is opinion but imo removing the start menu was the best thing for windows users. I never met even 1 person with a messy unorganized windows 8, while I only know maybe 1 person who had a organized windows 7. My point is, it encourages you to keep everything clean and organized. Also you can save alot of the computers assets etc if you know what you're doing, making it perform better with certain tasks.

We should all be so lucky.

Windows 8.1 is fantastic, though. Now, THAT is a rebranded service pack.

Win9 will allow for apps that will run on phone and PC with the same code, Cortana, Modern apps on desktop...
...my body is ready.

Windows 8.1 is a service pack, no rebranding neccessary. It is literally windows 8 service pack 1. Windows 9 seems to be 8.2 just renamed Windows 9. Not that that is neccesserily a bad thing. Windows doesn't need a big overhaul, just some iterative improvements to UI and APIs. Which Win 9 seems to be delivering on so far.

Win 8 had cross platform apps (and it's still just as bad an idea now as it was then), speech recognition has been in since Vista and cortana is just a natural evolution of that (not a particularly useful one when you have a full keyboard available wich is 100% accurate and usualy quicker than speech anyway), modern apps on desktop has been doable since win 8 launched via 3rd party extensions and via snapping, it's not piticularly useful as most of the modern apps suck.

I don't need your pity nor have I asked for it.  In fact you just convince me that common sense is indeed a super power. If you have a moment let break this down for you.

Windows 7 is highly refined, a complete operating system from the start, without the reinvention that introduced new problems like in Vista, and Windows 8.

That is what I'm comparing, I hope this cures your ignorance.

CPU: Ryzen 7950X
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5

Hahahahahaha. Windows 9 will be even more of an apology than I thought.
