Forums - Nintendo Discussion - OPINION: Nintendo needs to change their home console brand

Nintendo changes their home consoles name every gen. I think this is bad for business. Not everyone will know that Ninty released a new console that has a totally different name. I did not know the Wii was a successor to the GCN when it first came out. This may cause people to drift away.

This is why I feel Sony and MS have such great success with their consoles in long term. Someone who bought a PS3 knows that the PS4 is its successor because it is all tied to a brand name. The difference in names may also cause confusion. Similar to what happened with the Wii U being thought of a peripheral for the Wii.

Am I saying this is the most important aspect? No, but it is important nonetheless. Nintendo needs a permanent console brand and Wii is not the answer. They need to bring back the NES and SNES names. Called the next gen NES 3 because the first and SNES or something. I prefer the NES 7 since its their 7th console. I dont knoe but they should pick sometjing cacthy and simple. And a slogan is important too. How about their original slogan: Now you re playing with power!

What do you think.

While I agree with what ur getting at, I do think their decisions to change their console brand name from GC to the wii was a good thing cause GC did terribly and they should change their name once again for their console next generation too cause the wiiU is doing terribly. But yea, they need to figure out an awesome name and just evolve the brand off of that!

Although, even till this day, my parents think all my consoles are Nintendos including the ones that are not lolll (Like ps3, psp and so on)

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

They could just call the console Nintendo...

Lol what?
What you are saying is the opposite of what happened in reality. Wii was a giant success and in part because of Nintendo's strength as a brand. Wii U was confusing because some people didn't even know it was a new console.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Your point is not stupid. Of course Nintendo tried to retain a brand name this generation but that didn't work for them because of substandard marketing. Wii 2 would have been an awful, yet superior name to Wii U.

I think Nintendo's next home console does need to be a complete rebrand, both in name and just in revamping the image of what Nintendo is. Then if that's a success, maybe it's a brand they can stick to.

However, no slogans! Slogans suck.

If they're making the Fusion like so many people believe, they should call the console NES Fusion and the handheld GameBoy Fusion if it only has one screen.

They can still change the name a bit, like calling it NWU (Nintendo Wii U) instead, like the Playstation 3 changing to PS3.

That's only ONE issue. There are many others that need adressed IF Nintendo really wants to be top dog which I'm not sure they even do. I think Nintendo wants to make profits. I may be wrong, but I don't think any home console has ever LOST money for them.

They need to drop the "Wii" brand as that's obvious. But beyond that, names are the least of Nintendo's problems.

I agree, especially with the slogan. I think NES would be great followed by NUMBERS like you said, but I'd rather have something new again but to last...if its a better name than NES.

DS brand must stay.
