I haven't read the whole thread, but did anyone consider that Ellie could have immune children? Mankind would be saved without her having to die.

So every Male should have sex with her to save mankind? Well if you put it that way..

Well, you realize she would infect the male in the process, but i am sure it would be a for a worthy cause if you feel like doing that.

...or people with a less dirty mind could opt for artificial insemination.

I think it would be unlikely for that to happen. There is no evidence the fungus can be transmitted sexually. Besides that, wasn't it mentioned that her version of the infection had mutated within her? So maybe it isn't even contagious at all from her.

Well, that is all up to whoever will continue to write the story if is is continued at all.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

That's true. I doubt they would actually mention Ellie having sex if there was another game, but her kissing someone certainly could happen. If having sex would transmit the infection then kissing should too, so we may well find out in that case.

So Ellie would end up like Rogue in the X-Men! Not able to kiss or have sex forever!

When I played the first time, I feeled like Joel, I needed to save Ellie at all costs. I entered the room, the surgeon then hold up the scalpel, and I used it against him, I left the other surgeons and took Ellie.

To me, humanity is the one who destroyed everything. To me everything comes back to the intro scene. It wasn't an infected who killed Joel's daughter, it was a soldier, a human. Other humans did the worse things to others too. Joel spent 20 years living among these people. He knew what humanity have become. He lost faith in people until he met Ellie. Important is the fact that he saw how his brother and its people were rebuilding society despite the infected. Maybe he thought there was another solution without sacrificing Ellie. To me the real cure was recovering society and civilization to work together against the infected and not just something that "probably" could prevent the infection, because nothing guarantee Fireflies would use the cure to good use either....

And nobody questions the fact that the Fireflies didn't ask her for permision. In some point, in the Univerisity in Colorado, you have an extra scene between Joel and Ellie discussing how they think the cure will work or what the Fireflies will need from her and they say that probably only a blood test will be necessary. Of course Ellie would help if only her blood was necessary, but I don't know if she would have agreed if she needed to sacrifice herself.

i never finished, i didnt stealth around long enough to do so. not my cup of tea. i already read about the ending and friends tell me.

lol, hopefully it wouldn't be that bad though. As long as the infection takes a while to start controlling them it wouldn't be too bad. It really would be a one night stand though lol.

Remember when she bit David, she told him that he was infected now. It could have been a bluff though. I doubt she could be sure herself.

Also there are hints in the game that her mother may have been infected when she was pregnant with ellie.

So you killed multiple people who wanted to kill a single girl to safe the girl just so you could save yourself. That doesn't seem fair.

Just to let you know, you only have to shoot the surgeon, which is what I did. There's no need in killing the rest of the medical team.

It's still one death for 1 life vs 1 death for millions of lives.

There was never a gurantee about a cure. It was just a hope. In fact, it gives hope that the sequel will be once again searching for a way to use Ellie to get a cure without having her die.

A shot in the dark but I think we will see Ellie hunt the game for a different cure. Be it another person or something else.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Well, there is no guarantee that they would have been able to make a cure, something could have gone wrong, then you have no cure and no Ellie.

Off Topic:

How exactly did this infection spread across the united states in the first place? I mean, if it takes 2 days for the infection to spread then couldn't the military just kill the currently infected really fast, and just gather up those who are about to be infected and kill those? It's not like other zombie movies where people become zombies so fast that it's easy to get overwhelmed...anyways, I probably missed something.

Ellie does seem like she will be the main character. Joel is old. Hard to say there is a ton you can do with such an open ending that the Last of us delivers.

I think Joel will play a role. Maybe she'll get mad at him for hiding the truth about what happened with the Fireflies, go off on her own then realize what his motivations were and reunite with him later.

Makes sense. It just seems Joel is in his late fifties in the game. He looks 30 plus when the game starts. Then the game progresses 20 years. By the next game, I think years will go by so Ellie is not a teen, but a a young woman. Once again I am guessing based on what I hope.
