Forums - Sales Discussion - PS4's total software sales surpass those of Wii U

Cool! 326 73.26%

Not cool... 119 26.74%

Total:445

That isn't a fair comparison at all. The Wii U hasn't even been on the market for 2 years!

Well the wii u had a whole full year of software sells and those numbers probably included heavy bundled games like nintendoland

Oh derp, I thought this was annual.

But these are multiplats. Having the most multiplats sold over another console that is not getting multiplats is a very warped way to view this. How about we compare total exclusive software sold? I mean, wouldn't that make more sense?

So we shouldn't count multiplats because they are only coming out on one console between the Wii U and PS4, but we should only count exclusives because...?

It is fair. If Nintendo wanted more software sales they would make sure multiplat games actually release on their console. They choose to compete without them, and this is the result... they lose.

And how do you propose Nintendo do that? Nintendo isn't going to pay for these multiplats to exist on their system like Sony and Microsoft have been. I mean... They are a business, are they not?

So, what should Nintendo do?

Congrats PS4, although its nice to see Wii U is doing ok on the software side of things.

Lets put out some information so people are not confused.

Multiplats are being made available on every system but the Wii U. So, this would be PS3, X360, PS4, Xbone AND the PC. That's 5 different platforms. So, if a game is available on 5 different platforms, why should any _one_ system claim to have sold more software than a machine that is not getting that software?

Lets put it in another perspective. Would it be fair to say the PC has sold more multiplats than the PS4 or even the PS3? Would we even find the need to celebrate this?

The PS4 has more multiplats than the Wii U. The fact that the PS4's total software sold is barely higher than the Wii U's is very telling. In reality, you're comparing the number of multiplats sold on the PS4 to Wii U's very own 1st party exclusives.

So, what should Nintendo do?

Microsoft and Sony don't need to pay for them because their consoles can actually handle them. Maybe if Nintendo made a console that was powerful enough and easy to code for then they would get more multiplats.

Failing that they should pay for them, or at least offer them incentives like advertising with other Nintendo stuff or reduced platform royalties. Yeah Nintendo are a business, but businesses need to spend money to make money. If they don't put the investment in, either with a good console or other incentives to get multiplats, then their consoles won't sell anywhere near as well as they could.

Microsoft and Sony are paying 3rd parties. They've admitted this themselves.

Also, Nintendo does help advertise 3rd party software

Lastly, Nintendo is not a conglomerate like Sony and Microsoft are. I don't think they can afford to pay off 3rd parties just to have market share.

Do you have any serious solutions that doesn't involve Nintendo paying somebody off? If you were someone to help Nintendo, how would you help them gain 3rd party support and put money in their pockets?

No. Not all Multiplats are being made available on every system but the Wii U. Some are on 2 systems, some on 3 systems, some on 4 systems, some on 5 systems and even some on 6 systems. Some of them include a Wii U version, some not. Some of them include a PS4 version, some not. Some of them include a XBO version, some not. Some of them include a PC version, some not.

And why are most of your postings bolded? It's annoying.

You got a source for that?

It's not just about market share... it's about revenue/profit as well. Sony/Microsoft take much more money from 3rd party platform royalties than they could ever hope to by selling the consoles themselves. That is money Nintendo could be earning as well.

If you think Nintendo shouldn't pay to make their consoles succesfull then maybe they should just stop making consoles completely, because they cost money to develop and produce as well so...

So, you're saying that a system can only be successful if it has multiplats? There's no way around it?

Look at that link. No one is saying you're wrong, but even when some games are on just 2 systems or even 3, it's safe to say a very large amount of them are not on the Wii U.
