I dont get it. As time is passing respect is vanishing from our society. Why people do this?

What society?

Society in general. Its not in my country but worldwide. People have no respect for others.

What he did was absolutely dumb and incredibly disrespectful for any monument, but it doesn't deserve 2 years in jail for it.

And regardless of anything, Maher is full of hot air.

Watch the video. he isn't jailed at all he was making a joke.

I see. I still can't make it fully because I just can't stand his program.

Just watch it.

Wow. Just... wow. No respect for what the kid has done, and tons of other people laugh at it, advocating it. I'm not saying he should be jailed, but what was his purpose by doing that? A reaction? Muddle the waters? Man, some people.

We live in a culture dominated by the media. Everywhere we turn, someone is telling us something via one medium or another. In order for anyone in this cacophony of voices to be heard, they exaggerate, exacerbate, and blow out of proportion any and all events that come along where someone has stepped out of line.

Because of that, we've become a culture of scandal vampires, looking to sink our teeth in the deviation of others.

Twitter explodes at the hint of indiscretion. People follow around scandal writers like oxen with rings through their noses, ready to jump when they're told to jump. It's--and I don't really know a better way to say this--fucking embarrassing. Stop being toys for the media, people. We're supposed to be educated, yet we fall for this as readily as any rube falling for the silver tongue of a snake-oil salesman.

I don't actually care if some kid violated a religious statue. It was dumb, it was disrespectful, and it was utterly harmless. It's something kids do all the time and, as Maher said, it's absolutely awesome that we live in a a part of the world where people can do dumb and harmless stuff and no one tries to kill them.

It's no big deal and those who try to make it a big deal should not be rewarded.

People do stuff with statues all the time...just google it. He just thought it was funny, I doubt it was even a religious statement.

Off-topic, I know, but this is my all-time favorite:

If he didn't cause any damage to the statue, I don't see what the big deal is. Make him do some community service, teach him to have more respect for others. Taking the picture is nothing, climbing on top of someone else's property is the problem.

Maher is right that we overreact to little things in America, but if we want other cultures to be as free as ours, the best thing we can do is set a good example. Invite people of all cultures to come to America and show them that as long as their beliefs deserve respect, they will be respected. We have to start at home. I couldn't care less what Jonah Hill says to paparazzi, but there is enough work to be done here.

I guess I'm saying we have to find the middle ground. We can't tell a dozen countries to accept homosexuality right now or... or something. Or what? We'll stop talking to them? But Jonah Hill calling someone a faggot doesn't matter. What matters is that we're hardly in a position to tell other cultures they should be more open-minded about sexuality when same-sex marriage isn't legal in all 50 states.

Speaking of outrage over minor things, I came across something today that had me shaking my head.

There is a cross-promotional event being planned between a Japanese and an American wrestling company.  One of the officials for the Japanese company said this on Twitter:

“We have too many good cards and having difficulty make it less than 10… Sorry but I don’t think there will be a room for girls this time.”

“We don’t want 5 min matches . We want to show good solid wrestling as a speciality of Japanese wrestling organization”

And it seems people on twitter lost their shit.  He ended up apologizing and defending himself.  Why?  I have no clue, except that there are a lot of people out there waiting to be outraged at something, anything, at the drop of a hat.

It was a common joke to pretend sex acts with a Ronald McDonalds the local McDonald's by teenagers. Why? They are bored.

On the video. The audience is awful and needs to understand speech rhythms and not cheer every line. On the point I agree we should be critical of other cultures and not excuse everything. Mutilation and oppression of women is real and I don't care what excuse anyone uses to justify it, I will never respect it.

Trying to get all 50 states to agree on one thing is more difficult than it seems. Especially when some go out of their way to make it more complex than it needs to be.
