So... Will Fusion be a portable and dockable Ouya?

well based on Nintendo's statements about wanting to replicate what Apple does with the ipod/iphone/ipad and have different "forms factors", i would imagine they will release 2-3 very similar yet different pieces of hardware. Perhaps we could see something like this.

Nintendo Fusion Go-small/sleak portable device

Nintendo Fusion TV-microconsole, more powerful than Go to run games at higher resolution/framerate

Nintendo Fusion Tab-larger handheld variant with equal performance as TV

all games will simply be released as Nintendo Fusion and will work on all three pieces of hardware.

Out of those I'd only say the bolded are 'big exclusives'. The others are smaller games that aren't going to have anywhere near as much impact.

Comes down to opinion in the end.

No it doesn't.  Not in terms of game sales or system movers.

Yes it does, don't argue with me on this. I named titles off, you replied with your opinion of what  the big titles on Nintendo platforms would be. It's 100% opinion, not fact.

To be honest the GBA probably would've sold 120 million or so if Nintendo had not discontinued it so early. Not exactly DS numbers, but not that far off either.

They launched the DS because the GBA was slowling to a crawl, and the refreshes did not do anything to really boost sales, and they felt that the brand was seen as too kiddy. So I don't really see how the GBA could have reached such colossal figures.

So why do you think Nintendo would make another console? (If you do think they will, if you think they shouldnt you can also post why).

Wouldnt it be much better for them to make the rumored "Fusion" Handheld Console hybrid? would Nintendo not be more successful and make more money by doing this? also wouldnt it be better for Nintendo devs to focus all their dev time on one platform getting what they can out of it?.

also (Judging by other Nintendo handheld sales) if it sells well enough and outsells the other consoles Nintendo can still say they are winning since it will be a console also in a way..

Nintendo has always made a profit on the Nintendo home console. Don't quote Michael Pachter for the love of god. Love yourself.

Far easier to do that when games had GameCube sized budgets and a "big" game could be made with 40 people if need be.

The GameCube also had a lot of third party support whereas Nintendo's relationship with third parties today has completely fallen apart so that means they're not making a lot of money off licensing fees anymore.

Next year we're looking likely at not even ten third party games for the entire year (retail release). The GameCube would get 10-15 third party games in a month sometimes.

Even if that copy of Barbie's Dreamhouse or whatever for GameCube (lol) didn't do squat, Nintendo gets $10 of every physical copy you see on a store shelf. When third party support gets near to nill like the Wii U is, that revenue source dries up real fast.

Nintendo also said after the GameCube that they weren't in the business of selling a console that only sold about 20 million consoles and they were very dissapointed with that. So I have to imagine they're not happy at all with the Wii U and probably never will be.

Unlike Sony taking risks with their console Nintnedo has always had the philosophy of making being conservative and profitable with cheap hardware and taking the risk on the development of their games. Smart.

Total SW compatibility across the whole range is an excellent idea. About HW, they'll have to offer at least a model that won't force users wanting both portable and full home experience to get a duplicate... For example a portable, most likely the highest-end one, with 2-speed GPU and CPU like many notebook PCs, slower and lower res when running on batteries, faster when plugged into the mains.
Built-in multiprocessing support in the HW and SW architecture could allow a different solution: a docking station with all the necessary connections for a home console and dedicated CPU and GPU that could add their power to those present in the portable module when using it as home console.

Because if they make this Handheld-Console hybrid, why should I choose the handheld? They're both getting the same games, and the console is just more fitting to me. So the handheld will just die. Or the opposite could happen (but that's less likely). Look at Vita-PS3/4.

I like how you say that either could die, but don't think that they could both do well.

What are these many failed attempts? NES and Wii were sales phenomenons, SNES sold respectively and edged out the "more hip" genesis, N64 and Gamecube, while huge declines saleswise, still profited. Only the Wii U hasn't profited for Nintendo, and that could have changed lately.

Hardware is what Nintendo does. It's one sets them apart from a typical game developer. And the console/handheld hybrid, while it could be a good idea in theory, there's no guarentee it will be successful just because their handheld line is. And if it fails, then they're REALLY in trouble, as they will only have one piece of hardware to rely on. Probably best to get their revenue from multiple sources.

I'm pretty confident Nintendo has come to their sense and will get it right next gen. That is, go back to the NES/Wii formula of appealing to a mass audience, that brought them such success. If they don't, I do think their "quality of life" platform could at least be enough of a hit to keep them afloat on the hardware front.

All of Nintendo's consoles try to aim at the "mass audience". The general family audience, fun for little 9-year-old Timmy, but his mom, dad, and even sister can play. That's the Nintendo vision for every console they make (I'd say probably an outdated and misguided one, but alas).

The Wii just rode the success of the motion gaming fad for a few years before it fizzled out.

If you mean make another platform aimed at soccer moms and teenage girls ... sure ... just be ready to charge 99 cents a game. Because that audience ain't interested otherwise and to think that Apple/Android haven't had a major impact with these demographics is beyond naive.

To be honest I don't think women are interested in any type of Nintendo hardware anymore. A smartphone keeps them connected to their social circle constantly, surfs the web, Instagrams, Facebooks, has Twitter, Tinder, and bazillion other apps and tons of "friendly looking" free or cheap games like Angry Birds, Candy Crush, and even Flappy Bird with easy to play button-free interfaces. Not only that but having a new iPhone is as much of a fashion accessorie as it is an electronic gizmo, a 3DS is a child's toy by comparision.

Nintendo can't compete with that, not in functionality, not on price ($40 games vs. free/99 cent ones), and not in style/marketing (not even close).

Yes, they tried to reach the mass audience with all, but went about it wrong except for the NES and Wii.

I've spent 8 years on this board explaining to death the many many flaws in the "Wii rode the motion fad" argument and am officially burnt out on attempting to explain it to the thick headed hardcore, so I will not do so again.

Yes, that is exactly what I mean. Obviously Nintendo trying to appeal to the hardcore has failed (Gamecube, Wii U, N64). Hardcore ignore Nintendo so they need to learn to ignore them back. They did it with Wii and, not coincidently, it was a smash hit. So yes, the soccer moms and teenage girls should be a big part of their focus, as it was with Wii; but also the retro/lapsed gamers who don't like the current stuff in gaming. This is a huge part of the Wii's success, and one that is overlooked. And there are more out there than you think. I know they exist because I somewhat fall in this group myself, and so do many I know. The audience aint interested unless its 99 cents? Than why did so many millions spend $100 on Wii Fit? Oh right, that's a "fad." The go to hardcore excuse..

Blah blah blah.. more typical misguided hardcore/industry progadanda talking points. I'm done here...

The hubris of fams to think its not about the profits. Saying its "for the fans" Is true but only to a point. They are doing everything they can to sell units and games and consoles. They want games to be profitable as well.
