Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Bayonetta 2 sold 67% of it's initial shipment in Japan

"According to Media Create, Bayonetta 2 sold roughly 39,000 units in its first week. But this doesn’t paint the full picture.

Media Create also shares a bit more about Bayonetta 2’s sales. The game actually managed to sell through 67.29 percent of its initial shipment. There weren’t sell-outs, but Bayonetta 2 did end up shifting approximately two-thirds of the shipment.

It’s also important to remember that Bayonetta 2 launched in Japan on September 20. Media Create’s reporting period for the week ended on September 21, so the game did not come close to experiencing a full week of sales."

Not bad.

That's reassuring for sure !

I can't wait for the following week's numbers, to have an actual idea of the sales.

39k in a day isn't bad at all !

Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.

I think it will do OK. It looks really well done.

The last paragraph makes the article lose all its credibility.

Pretty obvious spin article written by someone that either doesn't understand how japanese sales work or who conveniently forgot how they work in this case.

Selling 67% of your stock (less according to Famitsu) the first week is not good for a game in Japan.

I hate those kinds of relative numbers. They say absolutely nothing.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

It actually is 67% in the first two days. How is that bad?

You mean in two days 20th and 21st. Still I wish it could have done better because for me anyway those sales are not good at all

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

People shouldn't let their hopes get too high. We've seen in the past, in these exact same situations, that first day sales account for the bulk of first week sales. This becomes more true the lower the installed base.

Still, it will be interesting to see how much Bayonetta 2 can add. Is over 50k possible? That sounds a whole lot better than 39k.

Not bad actually if we consider ps3 userbase then and current wii u userbase. But I was expecting more. For the sake of nintendo this game needs to be a commercial success.

They do. Nintendo wasn't expecting too much from the game either :/

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.
