UPDATE: This is indeed a joke. I hope you guys enjoyed it!
Final Fantasy XV was announced back in 2006 as Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Tetsuya Nomura has been the head of the project up until recently, as Square Enix removed him from the position to start Kingdom Hearts III. He has been replaced on FFXV with "One Button Tabata." There were a couple of reasons for Nomura's removal from the project.
First, the time frame for release that Nomura was moving the project to, was not acceptable to Square Enix's current president. Nomura was used to being given all the years he wanted by former head of Square Enix: Yoichi "madman" Wada. It is no surprise that Wada lost his position. Tetsuya Nomura not only changed the release date again to a later date--summer 2017--but he even wanted to change the game itself. That was the reason for his 17th release date delay since 2006.
Second, and even more disturbing to myself, was what he wanted ro change the game to! He was going to bring back Lightning into the mix as the main character, making Noctis a supporting love interest. He was also going to retitle the game to Lighting Returns Again: Final Fantasy XIII.
After this announcement, there was an inner struggle between Nomura and Square's current head about this. He had argued that Lightning is not the popular character that Nomura believed her to be and that it was in his head. Nomura refused to believe this even after relatively poor sales for both of FFXIII's sequels and being shown many many fan emails stating that they wanted no more Lightning. Realizing that Nomura had a problem, the president removed him from FFXV and placed him on Kingdom Hearts III. Nomura agreed since he would be allowed to bring back Lightning in that title.
Under the new FFXV lead "One Button Tabata.", a release date in 2015 is now possible, especially since he wants to simplify FFXV to a one button game. Fans waiting since 2006 have become so angry and threatening that Square Enix saw Tabata as the man to get the game released quickly as fans want the game released now, even if it is not complete. They are that tired of waiting!
I, for one, feel for them.
