Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why isn't Nintendo playing a stronger Virtual Console card?

Maybe they plan to release them when Wii U has no games coming out.

I kind of get not having GC games because of the L and R buttons...
For every other console, the only reason I can think of is that they don't want my money...

What do you mean. The pad and Pro controller can deal with GC games. Nintendo is just being stupidly slow.

It would be hard to recreate the R and L buttons using the Pro Controller...

Take Super Mario Sunshine...

The depth at which you held down the R button determined the strength of the water stream...

It wasn't as simple as pressing the R button; this mechanic was also used in Luigi's Mansion...

The L and R buttons on the Pro Controller do not use the same mechanic...

The L and R buttons on the GameCube were much more than simple trigger buttons...

Oh, you mean analog buttons. Then no, they won't work the same. Use the GC controller adapter then.

I am glad they dont have them on VC.

Those games are meant to be played on the original system lol.

Really dumb comment. a lot of people don't bother with that. It's free money for companies.

They should improve the emulator front end used to run the old games, give you choices of looks like the free emulators available on PC to allow the games to feel more like they felt when being played on a CRT TV or game boy/gameboy color GBA games look like they did on different versions of these systems by emulatig certain color variations of old LCDs.

and obviously, they may as well release all their games on the VC, at the very least release them at a faster pace... a couple every week.

Maybe make some series available to buy in one shot (all 8 and 16-bit zeldas for 5 or 10$, or all the Metroids released until 2001 in one package) etc.

There are many many interesting use of the back catalog :-/ especialy Nintendo's (they have about 15 more years in the industry than Sony by example, who has about 7 more than MS... then again MS never put that much emphasis on 1st party games).

Oh, and make this cross buy, that would give an incentive for someone who has a big collection of VC titles on the Wii, the DS or 3DS to move on to the Wii U, with an improved experience....

One reason probably is, if you've noticed, Wii U VC titles are not merely straight ports. They add several features, such as higher resolution/scan/whatever, better state saving ability, the ability to set your controls/buttons for each game, etc.

That alone makes it a bit extra work, I'd imagine. I agree they need to put TG16 and Sega systems on there, at least. However, when asked about it, Sega didn't, for whatever stupid reason, seem to be in any hurry to do so, as they "currently had no plans" to put Genesis or Master System games on Wii U. And in that sense, it's all up to Sega. In fact, it's all up to every third party company, outside of Nintendo's hands. The only games Nintendo really controls on whether or not we get them for Wii U, is their own.

And I am still waiting for some GBA games I want, Harmony of Dissonance, Mario Kart, Zero Mission, Mario Advance 1. But I trust/hope we'll eventually get those, even though CV is totally up to Konami, and they do suck these days......

You know, it is more work indeed. I guess I should appreciate what they're doing more. It's a really silly situation, where everything has to be redone from the ground up, even if it does result in better, well, results.

Thanks for explaining the third party situation as well. Yeah, GBA Castlevanias would be a boon.

Well, they've already announced Cirlce of the Moon for Japan. Hopefully the others will follow. The question then is, will Konami see fit to have it put on VC in NA or not?

I am going to point out, for non-Nintendo games licensing can be a bitch and is costly

The 3DS GB games have a GB simulation mode. Where it makes the image go into green and black. But that's it.

The Game Gear 3DS VC games also have modes that simulate the blurriness of the Game Gear screen. I wish games like Donkey Kong GB had featured support of their Super Game Boy color palettes.

Well they should. I have tried some N64 VC games on the Wii and they just don't feel the same with the classic controller. They were really designed for the N64 controller in mind.
