Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Bayonetta 2 initially in development for Sega, Kamiya says

That begs the question how much Nintendo funded of this game.

And it also means that the tired notion "Without Nintendo there would've never been a Bayonetta 2" can be put to rest now. Apparently SEGA wanted to cancel it?

I like Sega.

That notion is still true. Also reading the posts above, it seems ryuzaki mis-translated the messages.

Never going to happen, give it a rest and just play it on Wii U. The game as it exists now was financed by Nintendo, Sega is not going to release some alternate version of the game that was maybe 10-15% complete.

it's worthless! Those guys aren't going to listen to you sadly.. :/

I must admit you're right. Might have read too fast here

If I had a penny for everytime I've mis-read/mis-understood something in Japanese (or English, for that matter), I'd be a pretty wealthy man.

The code they have right now anyway is PS3/360 code. And the game is probably very far from completion. Sega would have to fund completion of the game as it was, and still release it on last-gen systems, unless they wanted to pony up for the whole upgrade to PS4/One

while some people be moaning and crying begging for a port I will be playing this game on my Wii U next month. Win for me. I do this silly thing called play the games on the consoles they came out on. Money bags? Nah I also do this silly thing called saving up even if it takes months. I know I know very new crazy ideas.

I'll be playing it. ;)

Regardless of these tweets, the fact remains that Sega didn't see fit to finish the game on its own and was going to pull the plug anyway. Nintendo stepped in and rescued the game from the trash-heap as much-needed content for the Wii U. Other than the usual port-beggars, I really don't see what the issue is. Maybe in five or ten years it'll go multiplatform. Or maybe Nintendo will own the franchise lock stock and barrel.

I doubt its gonna be multi-platform cause just by the history of the wiiU/Nintendo, no Nintendo funded games went multi-platform ever, as I recall

So sorry guys, if you really want to play this game, get a wiiU or else quit nagging about it

Tales of Symphonia is an interesting case. Nintendo published it in the US, and the later PS2 version never released in any Nintendo published areas. Unclear if it was Namco's choice or contract clause.

However, while the enhanced PS2 version never released in the West. the HD collection did. Same question to wonder if it was just Namco's decision making or if because it was a "remake/remaster" they got around the existing contract.

Might have been a time-limited contract, in which case Nintendo had no say after x amount of time passed, or Namco and Nintendo made an agre, ement. Either way, Tales of Symphonia had nowhere near the investment from Nintendo that Bayo 2 does.  All Nintendo really did was to ensure that Symphonia would be a GC exclusive in the US during the time in which it really mattered.
