Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Bayonetta 2 initially in development for Sega, Kamiya says

Good evening/afternoon/morning,

This morning I came across a very interesting series of tweets of famous blocker Hideki Kamiya. Here're two key-statements :

"we were in contract with Sega for Bayonetta. At some point, the idea of a sequel made its way and we started the developement of Bayonetta 2" (i.e. for Sega)

"as we were advancing with the development, Sega withdrew from the project and it was halted temporarily"

That tells us two very important things :

- Bayonetta 2 was started as a multiplatform game, and Sega was in charge

- There are, in PG's hard disks, work-in-progress versions of Bayonetta 2 THAT BELONG TO SEGA.

Let me sum it up for you : Sega has the IP, they have Bayo 2 versions likely out of their agreement with Nintendo, and they have plenty of customers to satisfy. Why wouldn't Sega take advantage of that and sell a Bayo 2 Climax edition to the numerous Bayonetta fans waiting in the cold, crying in front of WiiU shelves?

Never going to happen, give it a rest and just play it on Wii U. The game as it exists now was financed by Nintendo, Sega is not going to release some alternate version of the game that was maybe 10-15% complete.

Sega are idiots.

Pretty sure Sega doesn't work with Platinum Games anymore period.

Konami (MG Rising), Nintendo (W101, Bayo 2), and Microsoft (Scalebound) are Platinum's new partners and two of those three are going to lead to platform exclusive games, that's just all there is to it.

You should look up rescind rights.

Meanwhile, why shouldn't they take advantage of it? Because of a massive lawsuit that will bankrupt them. Nintendo owns the gamecode for the completed game, what SEGA would, in theory own, is some unfinished and unutilized code sitting on some computer somewhere not even built for the WiiU's architecture as per the rest of the game. If SEGA wants to turn that into a game, they'd have to literally develop it from what little there might be and use nothing from Bayo2 assets as they don't own those. (And they don't own PGames, that code could well have been entirely destroyed by now or reworked for the purposes of Bayo2 on WiiU.)

If you want the game, buy a WiiU.

Nintendo wouldn't have moneyhatted the whole project if they hadn't secured full exclusivity on Bayonetta 2.

This hopeless longing for Bayonetta 2 on other platforms is just pathetic. The Wii U version is the only one you're going to get.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Looking at sales so far, Sega are smarts.

Well hopefully we'll get a port on Nintendo Fusion/4DS (or whatever they call it). ;)

while some people be moaning and crying begging for a port I will be playing this game on my Wii U next month. Win for me. I do this silly thing called play the games on the consoles they came out on. Money bags? Nah I also do this silly thing called saving up even if it takes months. I know I know very new crazy ideas.
