No, why don't you go back and look at other WiiU games in Japan. Unless it's Pokemon, Monster Hunter and Mario, there are no legs.

add to those above Gran Turismo and Grand Theft Auto and im saying world wide there really is no other games with long legs.

I think we can all agree that Bayonetta has the best legs in all of gaming history.

Wonderful 101's budget was Platnum's biggest.  If you think Bayonetta 2 is gonna be smaller than that, or smaller than thte first, then I'm not sure what to say to that without getting banned

Looking at Bayonetta 2, I'd wager assets were recycled which is a cost-cutting measure. This is no replacement for hard numbers by any measure but it's something to think about. It's the same idea behind Majora's Mask which was released about 1.5 years after Ocarina of Time.

Big difference is Majora's Mask came out in the Middle of the End of N64s cycle.

What interesting about this is it sold 38-39k copies in two days, and thats about 19400 copies a day. What happens if it keeps selling about 19,400 copies a day for a week? It would be close to 136k in a week span. Those numbers are not too shabby ESPECIALLY in a country where Console gaming is dying. Albeit that's a big IF but I think we should AT least give it a week before we jump the gun here.

Also, remember the original Bayonetta came out when Consoles were more popular in Japan (October 2009 to be exact), it only makes sense it sold more 5 years ago than now where Handheld and Mobile gaming are King in Japan. Hence that's why the two games that are ahead of it are Handheld games.

Those numbers are very bad.

"Bayonetta 2 was released on the 20th. This is for the week 9/15 - 9/21. It was released for one day and still managed to take the 3rd spot."

It had two days (20th and the 21st). The author who typed has no idea what they're talking about. 2 days is the standard time for a new release in its FW of sales.

I don't think you need to wait to conclude that something noone has ever seen before won't happen.  Do you have any examples of games that sold the same daily rate the second week as it did the first?  Particularly in Japan.  That's simply not how sales work, due to preorders the bulk of those 38k were actually on the first day and then things will go down from there assymptotically (sp) towards zero barring some bumps for price cuts and holidays.  It's simply ludicrous to think that this game could possibly continue to sell on a daily rate what it did the first week.

CoD, Halo, even ratchet and clank all have legs. There are a lot of games that have good legs, just not so much in Japan.

I'll take a commercial flop over a critical flop anyday of the week.

I'm going to able to play Bayonetta 2. If millions of others are too stupid to buy this great game, then that's their own fault. I'm going to enjoy playing this game which I see Edge gave a 10/10.

Am I being selfish and not thinking of Platinum or other companies who had flops of good games and thus lose money ect and go out of business or sell out, ect. Whatever. I'm one guy. Me buying 10 copies of every game ever released on every system wouldn't make a single dent on any companies financials, so I'm not going to worry about that. I know the age old saying of "every vote counts" But lets get real, your one vote or one game purchase doesn't matter. I still vote and vote for who I want. I buy games that look good and I want. And guess what. Plenty of people I don't want get elected and plenty of games that I buy end up flopping.

Thus I care more about a game being good than a game getting a billion sales.

That comment gave me cancer.

Also Wii U owners are not stupid for not buying this game, it's not the type of game they buy. Its extremely arrogant of you to say that, its like saying to a person who doesn't like racing games that he is stupid because he didn't buy it even though it got a 10/10. I mean holy shit, this operation platinum is basically admitting that most Wii U owners are casuals because they know that the game will sell horrible because its aimed for hardcore gamers and there aren't many. So you should actually care about whether games like Bayonetta 2 sell well because guess what, you aren't going to get any more like them now. Same with Xenoblade, it will sell much better than this because its an RPG but holyshit is that game going to flop, it seems to have a way bigger budget than Bayonetta 2.

This game is not heavily bundled neither is a Nintendo flagship ip.If you expect Mario/Pokemon kind of legs,i have bad news for you.

I said nothing about expecting the kind of legs that Mario/Pokemon tends to get. I said longer than on other systems.

Bayonetta on PS3 sold more than 50% of its Japanese LTD sales in week 1. Similar for the 360 version. Final Fantasy XIII for PS3 sold almost 80% of its LTD sales in Japan in week 1. Wonderful 101, on the other hand, sold only about 12% of its LTD sales in week 1 in Japan. For Dragon Quest X, it's about 18%. The only notable Wii U title that I could find that shows anything like the PS3 front-loading was Monster Hunter Tri, and that was a launch title.

Just a reminder to people who are going to shout "Sold less than 360 version of Bayonetta"...

Nintendo systems typically produce longer tails in game sales than other systems. It's too early to say anything about how it'll sell in any ongoing sense. At the very least, wait for week 2 - both versions of the first game dropped by about 80% in the second week, which would correspond to sales of about 8k for the Wii U version. My prediction is that it holds relatively steady - maybe 25k.

Anyway, my point is, first-week sales have never been a good predictor for Nintendo systems, beyond the obvious (if it sells 1 million in week 1, it's probably going to do pretty well).

No, why don't you go back and look at other WiiU games in Japan. Unless it's Pokemon, Monster Hunter and Mario, there are no legs.

How about YOU go and look at them? Dragon Quest X, Lego City Undercover, Wonderful 101, Wii Party U, Pikmin 3, Taiko no Tatsujin, DKC:TF, Tank Tank Tank, Resident Evil: Revelations... every one of them has less than 50% of sales in week 1, with many of them well beyond that (that is, much more long-term than week 1). PS3/360 games in Japan usually don't have legs as long as that.
