Forums - Gaming Discussion - People blamed delays for Titanfall having weak sales on 360, but what's Destiny's excuse?

Tagged games:

I recall MS catching a lot of flack for dealying Titanfall on 360. There were claims it did poorly solely because of the delays.

However, Destiny's first week seems modest on 7th gen in spite of the beta and being available on day one.

I'm just going by US numbers since that's all we have at the moment and that's likely where these games will perform best.

Is it possible Titanfall delays on the 360 had little impact on potential sales?

Well last gen is over, my excuse

It should have never come out on the 360. That was one of their biggest mistakes so far.

Did people really say the weak sales of TF on 360 was due to the delay? My recollection is that people said the delay was a desperate attempt to get more Xb one sales. I think expectations for 360 sales were pretty low regardless.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong.

To continue. You could argue that the PS exclusive promotions and content, and intervening months of Xb one sales, and that it is a dirty multiplatform game and other factors would also suggest depressed Destiny sales on 360, yet it still managed to outperform TF by 100k in the USA. So is an "excuse" for low sales actually needed. Perhaps in context Destiny sales on 360 are legit good.

That's the way I remember it, and as you showed Destiny sales on 360 are higher than TF, despite the 360 being 6 months further along its gradual drop off into retirement. Having said that, I don't disagree with the idea that the delay impacted 360 sales of TF.

I don't think the delay caused people to run out and buy XB1's who weren't already going to buy one (something MS no doubt hoped would happen), but it gave time for the hype to die down and allow people to assess the game more objectively. It's became clear quite soon after release that though TF was a good game, it wasn't 'must have' like it'd been hyped leading up to it's release.

There is also the case that sales of  the XB1 version are artificially inflated by the large amount of bundling that occurred for XB1 and not 360. So the sales of the 360 version are more indicative of TF's true natural demand

Did people actually say that? As for low sales on last gen consoles, more core gamers on newer gen consoles so it makes sense that they'd have much greater sales.

People were all over the place. There were claims it was to sell more X1s and I agree with that. Its a smart strategy, some games were exclusive to 8th gen consoles for the same reason.

There were also claims that the 360 version is being buried by MS and will bomb. This thread is a response to those claims. You can see easily find some of those claims on the VGchartz wall of Titanfall for 360.

I disagree.

The X1 saw a sales boost regardless of this game being multiplatform. Also, it was likely cheaper for MS to get this exclusive by allowing it on 360.

We can't presume everyone who bought Titanfall on 360 was willing to get a X1.

I think people are moving are just moving on to next gen quicker than most expected. And those that are waiting a year or two to jump in are just holding off buying games and will just get them for the next gen consoles when they do join this gen.
