Forums - Gaming Discussion - Successful developer acquisitions?

In my opinion, Bungie. They used to be developers for Mac computers before Microsoft bought them. Now they are developing for consoles.

Bet with Xander XT:

I can beat more games on his 3DS than he can on my PSVita in a month. Loser has to buy the winner a game on his/her handheld Guess who won? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=193531

Monolith Soft.

They were a throw away developer for many studios, having both Xenogears and Xenosaga rushed to their completion (which was very noticeable if you played the series). After they were acquired by Nintendo, they seem to not only have been trusted in handling Nintendo's major franchises (such as their help in the development of Skyward Sword, A Link Between Worlds, Animal Crossing New Leaf, and Pikmin 3), but have released what is widely regarded as the greatest JRPG of 7th gen with Xenoblade Chronicles. This is a MAJOR feat considering how far removed from the rest of the series the game actually is.

These guys piss excellence.

Naughty Dog.

Rare

naughty dog, media molecule imo.

Rare

I suppose that it's a "successful acquisition" in the sense that MS was successful in acquiring them...

Rare's partnership with Nintendo is by far the most successful in the history of the industry. Other successes include Retro, Naughty Dog, and Bungie.

I'd rank them in this order;

1) Rare/Nintendo (1994-2001)
2) Retro/Nintendo (2002-present)
3) Bungie/Microsoft (2000-2007)
4) Naughty Dog/Sony (2001-present)

Naughty Dog because they've been able to make multi million AAA sellers with a fraction of the budget allocated to other equal-standing studios. Cost efficiency is technically more important than raw numbers.

Most of the First Party purchase by Sony.

DMA, ie, Rockstar North.
