Forums - Sony Discussion - Hajime Tabata wants to make Final Fantasy XV "more casual, one button action"

I really dislike this whole "not an FF game" debate. People project a lot of things into the next FF, everyone has an "ideal" FF in their minds, and the next person thinks that would be the worst FF game ever because of the same reasons.

Final Fantasy is not about being turn-based or action-based, that's secondary. To me, it's about standing out at every aspect - a likeable cast of characters, an engaging plot, amazing soundtrack, and a fun battle system, regardless of being turn-based or not. FF's battle systems have always stood out among other jrpgs. Even if you don't like XIII's system, it's undeniable it's pretty unique. Saying FFXV will not be a "proper" FF game regardless of its quality just because is an action-rpg, sounds almost insulting to the producers of the game to me. And then you mention Type-0, which is also in real-time and whatnot =P

I know what you mean but one of the things I see as FF is steampunk. 13 was not steam punk it was just sci-fi, so not FF. But there are things that I see as FF and that have been aspects that define an FF game over others, the gameplay, story and things can change but the basics are the same. Self contained battles, ATB or variation of, summons and magics (with correct names). I don't mind changes as 12, while moving from many traditions as it was set in Invalice, is such a great game.

... btw, I'm serious on steampunk. 13 failed so bad there.

You really think that? I'm surprised, the last thing I'd associate with Final Fantasy is steampunk.

And it's hard to point what are the "defining" characteristics on a series that changes SO MUCH with each numbered game (one of the reasons I love the series btw). But those things you mentioned are at every FF game ever pretty much.

Final fantasy has always been aimed at both men and women. The series has always been very popular with women, and this will certainly be the most.

I dunno. Not every female gamer is a yaoi fangirl. :p

Of course, but that's certainly a large base of the potential audience. Don't quite need to go to an extremem for it to appeal though.

Because ResidentEvil.net is the only gaming site out there, right?

Resident Evil.net is a site that specializes in Resident Evil 6 (and, to a huge extent now, Revelations). You should see how much activity there is whenever a weekly event comes up (especially the ones that give EX3 tickets).

I'm not claiming that all of almost six million people who purchased Resident Evil 6 loved/liked it.  All I'm saying is that "most people think RE6 is bad" is false, or, at least, has not enough proof to be claimed as truthfact.

Well, Capcom keeps saying that they will supposedly return to horror with Resi 7 and stay away from Resi 6. Why would they do that if most gamers were OK with how Resi 6 ended up?

No. Capcom said that if you want horror go check Revelations games now, hence the the new "subtitle" added.

Really? Look at all the airships. 6 with it's mechs, 7 with it's dated spaceage tech, 8 pushed the trains even if it is more sci-fi than most. 9 is rediculous for it, the world is basically steam. 10s machina. 12 world in general (it's Ivalice). Steampunk doesn't only mean litteral steam, it's a certain style. FF games are filled with it. Except 13 seems just sci-fi, it pushed cyberpunk instead and I just didn't like that.

Hmm, pie.

Capcom is clearly talking about Resi Revelations here... -____-

How is Kingdom Hearts a 1 button game, please explain it to me? I play KHI and KHII and it's by no mean 1 button. And another things, people are compare this game to all the old FF and said all of those were 1 button but this is the first FF that is action rpg, not turn base so that is a dumb compare.

Its not, it means one button does not equate to one option for combat which is what people are worrying about. Essentially action rpg or not, focusing on the fact that one button button is used to inititae attacks is meaningless. What is the UI on the botton left corner? I'm sure further actiosn are derived from that, but only one button executes attack.

I'm genuinely shocked that there are a handful of people whom up until now did not realise that the style of the battle system would be quite different from previous FF. Where in any of the trailers did we see vast menu's or turn based attacks?

People shouldn't worry though, remember this was versus XIII before it was FFXV. Essentially XV is a glorified spinoff, a game beginning developement as a mainline FF would normally undergo a different creative process.

Get the fuck outta here Tabata. Give me my KH Final Fantasy goddamn.

How the heck Kingdom hearts isn't a casual one button action?

How?

Ever since KH1 you had a button to attack, a button to block/dodge, a button to jump and a button to use special attacks (in HD remake), you had 3-4 shortcuts to spells.

Chain of Memories: basic controls from KH1 +  a button to stock cards, 2 button to switch your cards, a shortcut button, a cancel stock button, a button to execute a combo.

KH2 added reaction commands and forms for more combat option.

BBS: added the most depth with the Command Deck, Command Styles and Lockshoot.

3D: basically BBS + MotionFlow + Links + Reality Shift.

Yeah... One button action game it is.
