Forums - Gaming Discussion - Does MS really deserve praise for "listening" to consumers ??

I think they deserve the credit for listening but that doesn't mean I will ever trust them hence I will never buy any of their consoles

Of course not. Not only because of what they tried to do, but how they delivered it to the masses, to the consumer. Unbelievable dilettantish.

MS has shown once more that they have no plan what they're doing, no fitting concept. I hope for the sake of the videogame industry they're gonna get kicked out of concole business.

Yes. They deserve. Everyone makes mistake and if they rectify it its good.

not everyone makes these big of mistakes.  Never recalled the other two doing this.  Sure Sony was priced high before but it was for things that were good for gaming and they were losing massive amounts on each system so it wasn't greed.  When Nintendo forced a gimmick they made sure it was affordable and used it in every first party title essentially (no matter how well it worked I at least give them credit for fully commiting).  They never tried to block used games which is the single largest consumer rights infringement and almost ends up defeating the purpose of a console.

Nope, they did not listen to the consumer... had they this would not have happened to them in the first place. They listened to the dollar... nothing more, if people think anything different they are only fooling themselves.

Have you forgotten killzone and motorstorm CGI? Or dual; yes dual 1080p output for PS3? I havent. Point it everyone makes mistake. And everyone deserves a chance. Sony made a mistake with PS3. Nintendo made a mistake with Wii U. And microsoft made a mistake with Xbox One. And they are trying to correct it.

Sony worked hard on their mistakes of the PS3 by making such a wide range of games, that MS was unable to match. So MS can easily fix this by showing they support the gamer by making lots of games... I dont mean buying Minecraft or making Tomb Raider exclusive... I mean making actual games. They do that, I will look to forgive them and buy the console in a couple of years, if they don't they are not going to recover from their earlier mistakes imho.

A false promise is a false promise no matter how you spin it. Did ps3 had killzone and motorstorm type graphics? No. Did ps3 games output 1080p x2? No. Microsoft wants to dominate. And they are preparing for it. Never underestimate the opponent. Nintendo did it with N64. Sony did it with PS3. And Microsoft did it with Xbox 360.

As for the competition. Yes. I am loving that PS4 is doing well. But I also know Microsoft will strike back. So do Nintendo. This makes console gaming fun. And this is how it should be.

I believe we have already done a thread on this with the Jimquisition's "The Xbox One is a Lying Failure Machine."

Anyways, the answer is no. Let's say I and another person are competing in an orienteering race to the mountain top. Suddenly, we hit where the path splits into two. One path is considerably longer, but is perfectly safe. The other is way shorter, but goes through the forest where dangerous animals live there.

Another team takes the longer path. However, tempted by the shortcut, I decide to go through the forest. My companion, however, disagrees and warns me not to go down that path. I don't listen to him and I head in anyways while my companion doesn't want to take any part of it. Moments later, I come back with cuts, bruises, and torn clothes. I see my partner with his arms crossed. I reluctantly admit my mistake and took the correct path. Meanwhile, the other team is way ahead of me, perfectly healthy, while I am badly injured.

Would you consider that listening?

Praise is a strong word. I don't know if any for-profit company really deserves very much of it for doing the best they can to attract our money.

Recognition and some measure of credit for improving, though? Yes, I think so. It hurts no one to give positive reinforcement when it's earned. I'm not even really talking about the 180, however, but rather the move to put Spencer in charge of the division and to bolster their first party studios.

At the same time, I see no need to forget the actions I see as negatives. I'm a realist. I know perfectly well that they'd do those things again in a heartbeat if they thought it would improve their bottom line.

you're really grouping every mistake into a single big category?  They all trump up graphics on new consoles (RYSE, Killzone, X) that's not so egregious to me.  Especially when you consider that KZ2 looks better than that demo in most aspects.  Technically you could do 1080p output if you had basic enough aspects too so that wasn't technically a lie at all.  Mistakes are on different levels and the numbers don't lie.  Even with a $600 pricetag and a difficulty architecture and a year's lead by the competition PS3 didn't suffer nearly the backlash trying to take away consumer rights and charging for an unnessesary accessory that invaded your privacy did for MS.
