Forums - Gaming Discussion - Which console is the best for indies?

(Sorry, screwed up with the poll.) So, which should I develop for?

PS4 113 47.68%

XB1 5 2.11%

PS4+XB1 4 1.69%

Wii U 71 29.96%

I'd still tell you to go for PC anyway. 44 18.57%

Total:237

This is an honest question.

If you were an indie dev, which console(s) do you think would be the best to put your games on?

No joke about this, I want to develop eventually as a side job (or a hobby). I want to ignore the PC for now, and if I would, I'd go cross-platform between Windows 8 and Windows Phone. But, that's just me.

(And, yes, I know about The Letter fiasco.)

EDIT: sorry about that I read the title wrong XD

I say develope for nintendo and sony since they have pretty good indie machines

Bets:

(Won)Bet with TechoHobbit: He(Techno) says 10 million by January 1,2014 I say 9 million by then. Winner gets 2 weeks of sig control.

(Lost)Bet with kinisking: I say Ps4 will win April NPD while he says Xbox One will win it; winner gets 1 week of avatar control.

Raichu's First Series:

First RPG?

First Fighter?

First Racer?

First Shooter?

First MMO?

First Horror?

Official Ni No Kuni Fanboy:

Familiars Captured:37

Game Beaten: 2 times almost

Times I got teary during some scenes: 3

Sony has a reputation for having pretty good support for indie devs, so I think that's what I would go for.
Good luck!

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

Windows Phone? Why would you want to limit yourself to such a small audience? iOS/Android is your best bet if you're going mobile.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Until MS changes their policies, if ever your best bet is to just develop for PS4 and Wii U. That is unless you have a giant budget and huge staff that can produce the game on all 3 consoles at the same time. Because that's what you will have to do in order to get it on Xbox One or 360. So if you want to take your time and focus on making something you are proud of and then releasing on consoles one at a time you have to stick with Ps4 and Wii U otherwise you will only be able to produce it for Xb1 and end up with little to no control of the game and where it goes.

I'd say go with Nintendo.

If your only goal is to get your game on consoles, they are the best. Sony is great too, but it takes more work/dedication on your part. My game is exclusive to PS4 so obviously I think it's worth it, but I've been working on it full time for over a year. You don't seem like you have that amount of time to spend.

I have no first hand experience with Microsoft, but for new/smaller guys they are the worse of the three.

Ouya

OT: if it wasn't for that stupid parity clause it would be XB1, but its Wii U, then PS4 only because dev kits are cheaper if u have to buy them

I have a Windows Phone. I have a rather large following on a Windows Phone site.

Why start with naught when you can start with something?

It depends on the game...something retro I would release on Wii U (or 3DS) and something artsy I would release on PS4

Ah, thanks for whatever advice you threw at me. Ninty first, Sony second. Got it.

Hmm. I wonder if I should develop for the Vita instead of the PS4. Decisions, decisions.
