Forums - Sales Discussion - 2015 is upon us... lets talk sales!!!!

I think there will be people bookmarking this to try a necro in 2015 end or 2016 start, but them they will see that the important parts will be right and they would be ashamed when necroing.

Lol... I can understand how most of what I said could upset some people, but I think my reasoning is sound and I could very well end up being "mostly" right.

around this time next year most of what i predicted would probably have already happened.

I think PS4 is going to really widen the gap next year. This year they will probably come away with 65% market share, but next year I see 75% as a low end expectation.

I think the biggest winner for Sony is going to be the OTT IPTV service for PS4. This will turn PS4 into the true all in one device, and allow people to drop their cable box. The US alone has over 160M cable boxes, a huge potential market if done right. If Sony sets up a contract plan for PS4 something like $200 up front and $49.99 a month for the first year, I think they could move a couple million units a month all year.

Then on the gaming side of things, I see PS Now getting its subscrption model up and working along with the addition of PS1 and PS2 classics. PS Now will Expand to Sony Phones, and eventually start to pop up on 3rd party devices (ex. Samsung, LG, ect.).

SCEWWS will roll out major titles. We already know the 2015 is kicking off with BloodBorne, and The Order 1886. MLB The Show will see its first year built from the ground up on PS4. We know Uncharted is coming, and I expect to hear about The Last Gaurdian, and GT7 with Driveclub getting it time to shine. Santa Monica should be ready to show off God of War or Whatever their next project is. We also know Ratchet and Clank is coming next year along with Tear Away PS4.

Project Mopheus will get its final name and be released next fall.

Major announcement. Sony will Partener with Actvision for COD and it will be a marquis title for Morpheus. GT7 will also show heavy support for Morpheus.

All of the above along with a continued unification of Sony TV's, Phones, Tablets, and Network services PS4 will pull in consumers at a massiverate. MS will try to counter with more integration of the windows devices, but I think the momentum of PS4 coming out of this year will have an iPhone like effect on anything they do, even if they actually deliver better options than Sony, it will be over looked. To round it out, Nintendo will be the same wildcard the have been. They have the games to sell well next year from a pure Nintendo stand point, but is it enough? I am guessing they will sell similar to this year, and that will be the last year of sales at the current level.

2015 Totals (Jan - Dec)
PS4 - 28M
XBO - 5M
WiiU - 4.5M

I am not sure if MS will drop the price. Really, if SONY choose to follow, the gap wwill grow even faster.

By doing bundles MS can add value to their consoles without forcing SONY to answer.

FF15 has no confirmed releases date and Microsoft will have more than Just Halo 5 next year. Its way to early to be talking about 2015 at this point. Probably will be Wii Us peak year though, currently has a solid 2015 thatll convince a few people to hop on. But I can see Nintendo moving major projects onto the next console with E3 next year showing that 2016 will be smaller than 2015.

End of 2015 sales:  PS4 [38M]  X1 [20M]  Wii U [19M]

I'd say PS4 33M, XB1 15M, Wii U 14M.

Wii U is on track for about 3.6 Million sales in 2014 give or take for holiday surprises, for a total of about 9 Million by January 1st 2015.  What's going to propel Wii U to sell 10 Million next year?

My 8th gen collection

I think don't think the PS4 has to do anything price, or design wise to the hardware next year to continue to sell well. Making sure important games are not delayed, should be their biggest priority.

Xbox One could benefit from a price drop to help close the gap, I see a $30.00 price drop to $369.99. Also, if they release a new slim version it will appeal to all the people that do not like the size of the current one, while also causing some current owners to want to upgrade again making some a multi system owners. I personally would be tempted with a smaller system to go in my bedroom, and keep the gen1 version in the living room.

All 3 can drop the price of their consoles due to manufacturing cost involved should be going down every year. It really is up to the companies.
Sony - No (selling well now, I only see them dropping the price if they fall to the XboxOne 3 months in a row in sales next year - Not likely)
MS - Yes (Any price drop or hardware revision will help, but hopefully the new Studios they have opened show off some spectacular software next year to make it a compelling system)
Nintendo - Yes (at this point anything can help Nintendo, I will buy one when Zelda drops).

The Wii U costs 180 to build, there is no way in hell that it is going for 199. Microsoft may cut sales but I doubt it.

Wii U + PS4

Consoles>Mobile

Wow xbox one hate much?
Here is a prediction I know many of you guys are going to disagree with, but whatever.

In 2015 third party developers will give the 7th gen consoles the middle finger. Which means multiplatform games like COD, Assassins Creed (number title) , Battle Field and more are going to be available only on ps4 and xbox one. This alone and not counting games like Halo 5, Fable Legends, Crack Down, Phantom Dust, Forza 6, Tomb Raider and more will cause Xbox one to outsell the Wii U world wide.

Wii U's peak year is actually this year. No way it will sell 19 mil by the end of 2015. No...freaking....way.

Not a chance that 2015 won't be better than 2014 for Wii U sales, imo. Nintendo has a big first party Wii U game hitting about every month next year, and if Amiibos catch on then 2015 is when we'll really see their effect on Wii U sales. If Zelda, Star Fox, and Pokken FIghters all hit next Holiday that could be a massive sales frame too for the system. Pokken Fighters plus an Amiboo line for the game could be a serious force to be reckoned with.
