We shall see if any big multi that are not a FPS pushes X1 at all, i doubt it.  Especially out side of Murica and the island.

Anyone saying that big mutiplats wont push ANY Xbox ONE consoles is an utter fool and shouldn't be listened to.

Im 100% sure same applies to most of what you have ever said about PS4 vs X1.

That's actually a really good point. Japanese games, for example, will not move that many X1 hardware whereas the effect will be very significant for the PS4. That's because the majority of the fanbase for Japanese games are on the PS4, not the X1. T'is the wisdom of 33 vs. 13 countries. The more countries you launch your console in, the greater variety of gamers you reach out to. Basically, anything that's non-dudebro will struggle on the X1.

 This is all true.

However, it does spell a significant storm cloud for Microsoft. We're at or beyond a 1M sales gap in the US, and nobody sane would argue that it won't definitely be beyond 1M by September NPD results. As this gap continues to expand (the early 2015 releases will only reinforce this headed out of the holiday season as well!), the 'friend/family/networking' effect will get larger and larger.

In that way, we may start to see a greater significance in multiplat gaps as time goes on.

I predict that the inertia given to PS4 coming through September will be significant, affecting console purchases through the holidays by extension. For every person getting a PS4 or XB1 in September, they will have friends, family, and online friends in social media who will be told about their purchase, and influenced pro/con by word of mouth. It's statistically significant to the situation at hand that MANY more of these word of mouth exchanges will be coming from a new PS4 owner than an XB1 owner.

I agree with you 100%. If the gap continues to grow multiplats will move less and less Xbox One's as time goes on to the point where it could become a major problem for Microsoft. It may very well go that way, too, the way things are looking now. I am definitely interested in what the X1 will do over the holidays to see if they can gain any kind of momentum it desperatly needs. I am definitely not convinced they can do that but will be paying attention for sure. At this point they just cannot afford to let that US gap increase. World wide is probably going to get worse and worse so they need to bring something to the table in their homeland to slow down the frieght train that has become the PS4.

You make some very excellent points for sure. :)

PS4 global numbers are 472,885

XboxOne global numbers are 171,486

So what is the point of this thread? The UK is irrelevant when only global numbers matter. The gap for Destiny is far bigger in Japan, but no one made a thread on that. That boost is not significant since the UK is a smaller market.

For anyone with hope for the XB1, I think it will come at the timing of the September NPD results being published.

Big moves will be made, because I doubt more than a handful of realists are prepared for the magnitude of their implications.

$399 with a game won't cut it. Hell, $399 with TWO games didn't do enough vs. $399 with zero games.

$299 or bust.

evan that wouldnt be enough.

They lack the 1st party titles to go 12 rounds with SCE and hardware power and VR are on PS4 side.  No to mention legit 90% of world wide marklets heavly favor PS4 and their importance has grown significantly while X1 strongest seem to top out if not slighly shrink.

While I agree, I think there are several points to consider :

(1)- $299 is the magic sub-$300 number. Even without the other advantages PS4 enjoys (inertia, social media positivity, install base, consistently better multiplats, reputation for great 1st party diversity, etc), I think the US would sell a lot of XB1s IF $299 was up against $399 PS4.

(2)- The rest of the world, other than the UK to a moderate degree, IS lost to the XB1, so I believe global sales equity is impossible for the XB1 to ever achieve, even at $299/299 EU/29900 Yen, etc.

(3)- Sony would respond before long, the PS4 is cheaper to manufacture thanks to a more sane design, even without Kinect. The question would be : would they respond before the holidays were over?

(4)- The XB1 will definitely run aground in 2015 once more, as the early 2015 software lineup is pretty brutal, multiplats which will be better on PS4, then the Order, then Bloodborne. Ouch/ouch/ouch.

TLDR : I think $299 would help bring XB1 even in the US for Nov/Dec (not LTD, but rather monthly rates) if Sony didn't match their price. But either way it would be a phyrric victory of sorts, as it would quickly lose once more when Sony brought the pricing even.

The problem is they always focus on the same games (Halo, Gears, Forza and Fable) where as Sony has variety. yes they have Sunset and Wuantum break, but they will not get promoted like Gears or Halo. They wasted 2 bil on Mojag or whatever instead of investing in more first party and marketing.Since Live is no longer the standard they have lost their appeal.

299 was the magic price, things sure have changed it seems especially in richer markets where 500/700 phone tablets are the norm.

299 likely would sink the X1 even more as sony would match and at that price it would spur PS4 sales much more in those smaller less wealthy markets.  Price cut helps sony more, ms has not done an official one for the simple reason that sony can and would match it and they know damn well figthing a 399 PS3 is easier then one at 299.

I think it was pretty obvious that Destiny would sell both consoles release week, don't need to be a writer to figure that one out

You know that is a horrible argument of saying consumers are willing to spend more on consoles because they spend more on phones, because just like a computer, those products offer way more value to the average consumer than a console does.

Also in regards to Phone, a lot of them are discounted by clever contacts, so 700 phone becomes 149.99 Phone.
