But multiplats don't sell XB1's?????

Sad that even the more credible posters have to stretch this far. No one said multiplats don't help the One (unless they're nuts.) What countless people have said is that multiplats push PS4 more, which is true. But, by all means, keep that stretching. Just don't pull a muscle.

So we know sales have quadrupled in Japan and also in the UK. If the rest of the world sees a similar pattern, it would mean over 500,000 PS4s sold WW.

I don't think that rest of the EU and world will see a similar increase. Destiny is a game better suited to the UK and the US. Though then you'd ask why the Japan saw a big increase as well. Who knows.

Though I think 350k-400k is a more realistic estimate. 500k would just be crazy.

Well, anyway, we wont know that before months, wait for official numbers

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

13th Sept is up

473k PS4

I was close when i said 500k was an optimistic scenario (though as always, VGC numbers are liable to future adjustments)

What Sony gets and MS don't is that it is the online games that require connectivity and lots of friend circles that push most of the sales, exclusive or not.

This is why Sony backed up Destiny heavily as it will help sell more PS4, and those people's friends will also buy one to stay in the circle. This is not a brand effect but rather "network effects", which is exactly why X360 was popular in the past. Sony uses the same tactics against MS this time around.

Yes, not only the exclusives but online games like Destiny have been the true system sellers since the beginning of the 7th generation.

Playstation 5 vs XBox Series Market Share Estimates

Regional Analysis  (only MS and Sony Consoles)

N. America => XB1 :  49-52% vs PS4 : 48-51%

There is definitely some truth in that but we will see how well the Destiny community will keep alive. On PS4 I guess they have a good chance but depends on how well COD will do on PS4 this year.

Xbox One gets COD and MCC and I think both games will result in a rather small Destiny community on Xbox One.

So it was the same percentage for all Europe after all

So, how about 80% of my Live friends are playing Destiny every day in the last week?

And why VGChartz shows the PS4 version of Destiny with only 25% more than the XOne? Considerering that PS4 install base is about 20% bigger than the XOne in the USA.

I don't know. It's true Destiny is more suited to US and UK tastes, but we also have to consider that in mainland Europe the Xbox One is not going to "steal" HW sales from PS4, like it happened in the UK. That might be a reason sales quadrupled in Japan.

I wouldn't be surprised either way. We'll have to wait.

Edit: OK, we didn't have to wait, didn't realise the numbers had just been posted XD. It seems neither of us was right.
