Forums - Sales Discussion - PS4 Sales Up 300% in the UK thanks to Destiny, outsells X1 2:1

The numbers seem off, they must not have tracked the Xbox One Destiny bundles. And now that people see that Destiny is inferiour to Halo, Xbox One sales will start to increase.

Seems the current 1.5:1 ratio in the UK might be maintained in the long run then (with seasonal oscilations)

Awesome PS4 sales! The rest of Europe should get a nice bump too.

So Japan increased by around 200%, UK by 300% and it was the best week of hardware sales this year in the US. Maybe the PS4 can just edge by 400k for the week, and X1 numbers should be pretty healthy too.

Yay congratz on Sony... Jak & Daxter please?

Best case scenario (most optimistic given current info) would even bring it to 500k worldwide

But that'd need the rest of EU to have the same growth ratio as UK and the US numbers to be 200k (range we have is 100k to 350k)

Ans dont forget the rest of the world, could reach 100k too

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Likely other markets bumped PS4 more as its whoopin ass far more on mainland then uk.

Will this game carry it through the holiday? That must be Sony's plan because what else do they have lined up as system sellers.

Now, I look at Microsoft and the two bundles they are offering in the upcoming months. Is that a better strategy to maintain increased sales?

Time will tell. Sony bet the farm on PS4, and so far, they're winning the bet.

PS4 has just posted its biggest week of the year in the US, and MCV can reveal it is the same for the UK, too.

A senior industry source quoting Chart-Track data told MCV that PS4 sales spiked 300 per cent week-on-week after the launch of Destiny. Of course, a percentage increase means noting without any actual figures, and although our source would not reveal exact numbers, he did confirm it was the biggest week of the year for PS4 hardware sales.

It outsold Xbox One hardware by two consoles to one, but it wasn't a bad week for Microsoft either, who also posted a significant sales hike week-on-week.

Destiny was bundled with PS4 hardware, and was heavily marketed alongside the console, so that explains why it has boosted PS4 sales so much. However, it's important to note that the 'average selling price' of Xbox One last week was just £306, the lowest price for either next-gen console since they launched. So Microsoft did benefit from the cheaper platform.

PS3 also had a good week and managed to beat sales of Xbox 360 hardware for a change. Again, there was a PS3/Destiny bundle.

It just goes to show that the 'unprecedented' partnership between Sony and Activision may have been worth the investment.

Microsoft will have a good chance to fight back this month, however. The firm has a partnership with EA for FIFA 15 (out September 26th), and it has its own relationship with Activision for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, which arrives on November 4th.
