Forums - Politics Discussion - Occupy abolishes $4 million in other people's student loan debt-- OOOHH! Me next!

Abolishing debt by paying it. What a bunch of rebels! That will teach the banksters and the university-industrial complex!

Sign me up too. A lot of people have it way worse than mine, but still.

Pick me! Pick me!

Hey, I have to give them credit for (voluntarily) doing something about the issues that concern them rather than trying (again) to force other people to do it.

Actually you might not think its such a big deal but it is. They want you paying these loans over time for a long period of time so they can keep collecting their interest. Quickly paying it off like this is not what they want.

On another note I do think College is a rip off. It's ridiculous how many classes they make you take that are useless and have nothing to do with your career. I should not be forced to take two PE classes that's ridiculous and pointless. It's a scam and I quit after two years. I pretty much just lie on my resume at this point and I don't care cause I'm damn good at what I do. Plus I found out so many other people were doing it so yea.

I am almost willing to join the Army again to have them pay mine off. But I will most likely just be throwing my Income tax returns at them for the next 2-3 years.

I'm in my third year of college. I was able to not take any out this semester (private university grants cover my tuition and i pay my living expenses through work) and I paid $1500 off of my accrued $12,600 in debt by working at Walmart over the summer. I plan to go to graduate school, but I will get a stipend for whichever school really wants me. So hopefully by the time I graduate with my PhD I will have them fully paid off or only a few thousand to pay off with my first yearly salary.

Of course they do, but OWS is buying debt for about 5 cents on the dollar. That's a pretty good indication that this debt belonged to people who were not making payments and were never going to. Especially if it's debt that a collection agency bought from a bank and the collectors themselves are now throwing their hands up. They're just getting some money where they previously would have gotten nothing. Not exactly undermining the system or anything; quite the contrary.

Paying mine off by the end of the year :)

BTW It's generous thing for the Occupy folk to do. Instead of waiting for the gov't to do something, they're actually doing something themselves.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Your assuming these companies wouldn't file lawsuits against the people which would lead to wage garnishment.
