Forums - Gaming Discussion - Destiny and the flaws in game reviewing systems.

I finally got a chance to play Destiny (for about 6-7hrs)... Most gamers would rate a game on four things, Gameplay, Story(less so for multiplayer focussed) and Visuals and replayability. I played the game and it was very enjoyable and addictive(that's coming from someone who isn't really an FPS fan). The visuals were beautiful and the story, while not deep like Halo or TLOR, is okay. I'm a bit confused if the traveller himself didn't bring about the darkness in the first place.

In addition, I liked Peter Dinklage voice acting as the ghost. The little light is a robot(I think), it isn't supposed to be overly witty and I just don't feel annoyed at all. Maybe people are rating it based on a budget... (edit) Journalists* should review the game simply for what it is rather than what they expected the game to be.  It's a game that bridges divides and invites people who didn't particularly enjoy FPS before, to dive in and play.

This game definitely shouldn't be getting 5/10 - 7/10. As a non-fps fan who played the game for what it is... compared it with what's 'currently' on the market and the replayability/enjoyment it provided.... it's at least a 9/10.

I am a Gamer... I play games and not consoles. I have a PC and Console on which I game... I like games. End of Story!

Where's the paragraph where you point out the flaws in "game reviewing systems"?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

So you disagree with the reviews, so there is a critical flaw in the system?

Why write a paragraph about the flaws... isn't one line enough? you guys would probably be bored if I wrote something too deep and long anyway.

Your personal enjoyment is great, and at the end of the day that's all a game has to deliver to you. But while it does a lot of things well, it fails to do anything on a greater scale than what can be provided elsewhere in the eyes of reviewers. That's where the 5s and 7s come in.

It's the jack of all trades but the master of none.

There will always be a flaw in reviews like that. You liked the game compared to them.

9/10 at least based on 6-7 hours of play time. Yeah.

Also, Dinklage's acting is shit. Or, whatever Bungie did to it, made it shit. And he is supposed to be funny or witty. Why else would he try to make funny comments so often? Of course, they aren't funny, but he tries.

The real problem isn't the score the game is getting. Its what gamers perception of a game review has become. Ona a scale of 10, ten being highest, then a 5 literally is supposed to represent "average" or middle.

Destiny is a 7 for me cause its not really doing anything new or different and what it does do there are games out there that do it far better. Its the kinda game i would not have bought at full price, my current running excuse was that i just bought a white PS4.

Its a good game, it works and doesn't have any major gameplay flaws so its not broken. But its not a great game, that doesn't make it bad... just makes it not great. It could have been so much better though.

While I in general think the reviews system needs to be overhauled in favor of a common critical language as well as a critics association for games, what you're presenting is simply personal opinions and nothing more. IMO, it's totally fair to grade based on high bar that Bungie themselves set for the game, and many reviewers felt that Bungie really failed to deliver on the expectations they had set for Destiny. Even worse, many felt that the things it tried to do, it did worse than its contemporaries in the same field, hence the average scores.

Not sure about this. I find this game is weird.
