Forums - Sony Discussion - Consumers ruined Killzone!

Guerilla gave in and in Killzone 3 they added new areas (not that interesting) full with color and easier, more BF like gameplay and with KZ SF even more. So instead of building upon the story they were spending time and effort addressing things that were perfect in KZ2 (AI, gameplay, level design etc.).

So... Your argument is that the story isnt very good because they spent more time adding color and gameplay tweaks then they should have?

...Basically, you are saying that the programmers and artists should have spent more time writing story???

not sure you understand how developers work...

No, the gameplay was already perfect so they didn't really needed to revamp their AI system, gameplay or focussing on colourful graphics. They should have hired more writers instead of more programmers.

they just wanted to be like halo, but were never able to do that

I've only played 2, 3, and SF. I was really disappointed with 2 - it felt boring, and I only pushed myself to finish it so I could play SF when that released.

I loved, LOVED 3 - the characters actually became likable (yes, even Rico), the villains were great, the environments had a good variety to them. My only gripe with 3 was the last level and the awful ending.

SF was amazing to look at, but the gameplay was so much different from the first two games, that it just felt like a completely different franchise. I was expecting high-voltage war scenarios and was given stealth-as-much-as-you-can infiltration missions. The story was terrible - that setup, who in their right mind thought it made sense for the winner of a war to give up half of their planet to the losers of a war, and allow the losers to kill their people while they are moving in? The villains were neutered compared to the previous entries. Plus, it had that annoyingly cliched character Echo that just ruined every scene she touched.

I'm happy to see Guerilla Games work on something new, unless they are willing to step back from SF and give us a proper story and gameplay as they did in KZ3.

Guerrilla's talent is what killed the series. Or the lack thereof. I bought a PS3 the day KZ2 came out just for that game. For everything it did right, it had 1 or 2 flaws. KZ3 did some things better, some things worse.

Imho they are Crytek Jr. They make games just as meh in the gameplay department and not quite up to Crytek standards in graphics.

The only thing I cared about reading in regards to their new IP "leak" is that they brought in someone else to write for them. So I am intrigued. Should have done that 3 games ago. They wasted the Killzone universe with shitty writing.

In my opinion, the original Killzone had terrible checkpoints. And I felt like it wasn't a futuristic shooter. It didn't have plasma weapons and stuff like that. Heck, I took me 12 hours to finish Killzone, while it took me 10 hours to finish Halo: CE. I had more fun with Halo.

Bet with Xander XT:

I can beat more games on his 3DS than he can on my PSVita in a month. Loser has to buy the winner a game on his/her handheld Guess who won? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=193531

I played a bit of Shadow fall and didn't like it. Guerilla Games is just an average studio.

kz2 was an epic masterpiece IMO. its one of those games that what ever a dev does, it wont be able to match, so its better of trying something new. and thats what they are doing with horizon. i agree with a lot of what you said though.

I remember waiting through so many delays for KZ2 to come out, and yet it was worth it.   My god that game was amazing...Hell I thought 3 was REALLY good too, but now that the hype has worn off I can honestly say that SF was a good, but no where near the excellence of its predecessors.

I kinda hope they do a full remaster of the Killzone 2/3 collection (TLOU remaster quality).

I never understood the appeal of Killzone. They are a primary reason I got a PS3 and they were painfully dull.

Quite honestly, EA'S Syndicate is a better game that feels like Killzone.

I hope Killzone 2 doesn't end up being GG's Socom 2.

4 ≈ One

In my opinion, it was the consumers' and GG's fault. People's complaints about Killzone 2's weightiness were exaggerated, but that was one of the best things about that game. However, Guerrilla overreacted to the feedback on the weightiness and took away way too much of the weighty feel. Killzone 3 played more like COD, which I did not like.
