Forums - Sony Discussion - Consumers ruined Killzone!

With the high anticipation of Guerilla's next game, codenamed Horizon, everyone is hoping for something new and fresh from the studio mostly knowed by the Killzone franchise.

Killzone Shadowfall wasn't the game it could have been, especially the Singleplayer wasn't that good beside the graphical aspect. The multiplayer and co-op experiences are very good though but that is because of the continous support with huge updates in gameplay, content and features. Still at its current state it is a solid game but it could have been a lot better if it wasn't for the consumers.

It all started with Killzone 2. That game received massive praise, sold the best in the franchise (around 3 million units) and was a graphical master piece. It scored a 91 on metacritic and a lot people consider the game not only the best in the franchise but the best shooter ever. And in my opinion it still is. However I remember very well at the time people were flaming, getting annoyed and always trashing the game because of two things: The color pallet/design and more importantly the gameplay while these two things made Killzone. The combination of a gritty world and heavy controls (as if you really wore 40kg outfit) made you feel as if you were really in a futuristic war.

And both things have been adressed that should have stayed in the following games. The heavy feeling of movement and the gritty colors in the world. People demanded color, variety in gameplay with more guns, customizations and easier to use movement in a faster paced game and that is what ruined the franchise, ruined by the people with big mouths who didn't plan to buy the sequels anyway. And I still blame the gamers, the consumers of making my favorite franchise like most others. Nothing special. Guerilla gave in and in Killzone 3 they added new areas (not that interesting) full with color and easier, more BF like gameplay and with KZ SF even more. So instead of building upon the story they were spending time and effort addressing things that were perfect in KZ2 (AI, gameplay, level design etc.).

Therefore I think it will be very good to see how Horizon is going to change the RPG and I am eager to see more. And I'm still in for a remake of Killzone 2!

People need to realize that Killzone 2 was a spike and that all their other games are the baseline of quailty that GG delivers... which is above average.. nothing more

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

I cant speak from experience, but my friend who has all the killzone games said number two is a very good game however, he said that k3 and ksf just lacked in comparision

kz2 was an epic masterpiece IMO. its one of those games that what ever a dev does, it wont be able to match, so its better of trying something new. and thats what they are doing with horizon. i agree with a lot of what you said though.

I thank those consumers for helping Killzone 3 break free of the problems that stopped me from really enjoying Killzone 2. In 2 it felt like I was controlling a drunken sumo wrestler, not a soldier. And the samey grey environments got old fast.
In KZ3, the more varied graphics and gameplay combined with tighter controls and PS Move support made for one of the 7th gen's best shooters.

Shadowfall, unfortunately, then took it too far and fell off the other side back into mediocrity.

I loved Killzone 2. I had to force myself to complete Killzone 3 and I completely give up with Killzone: Shadowfall.

Funny thing is my brother hates Killzone 2, passed on Killzone 3 and loves Kilzone: Shdowfall to the point that he has been recommending it as the best Killzone.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

I've yet to play 3 and Shadow Fall (still in shrink wrap) but my experience with Killzone 2 is a far cry from most critics and consumers. I thought it was a huge step backward from the PS2 original, which is wildly underrated. In Killzone 2, the characters are poorly-written and unlikable, the story is contrived, and the gameplay is uninspired and generic. I think the quotation that best sums up my feelings is this: "One of the best looking games ever, but also one of the least ambitious in terms of anything else." I did appreciate that Guerrilla included bots in multiplayer, though. That's something that I wish more FPS games would do.

Hearing that 3 and Shadow Fall moved away from 2 is actually good news for me, since I prefer the black sheep of the franchise: Killzone and Liberation.

Killzone 2 was not even that good tho. I liked Resistance much better even tho I almost had to vomit all the time because Resistance is pretty ugly (thank god the game had some scifi going on  that made the boring visuals somewhat bearable)

Btw I am not playing shooters online at all. Just single player.

That is one of the most outlandish things i ever heard.

How can the consumer possibly ruin something they have no control over? Companies make products and they either appeal to the market or not. Theres no "consumers" ruined it. Thats not how marketing works.

After playing through as much of Shadowfall and Mercenaries as I could, I've come to the conclusion that Guerrilla doesn't know how to use checkpoints.
