The target audience won't notice it and probably doesn't own a Wii U.

We don't have confirmed specs on Wii U's GPU, Latte, but we do know from devs that it's a GPGPU several generations ahead of the PS3/360's and has Direct X 10 and 11 level features. |
Yes the feature set is much improved (that's why I noted lighting as an area where improvements may have been made), but most leaks/rumors also say that some of the raw performance values are worse than on the X360; afair pixel rate is one of those areas were it is slightly slower than the X360 GPU which might explain why they opted for a lower resolution on the WiiU version.
And I didn't want to start a discussion about the hardware specs; I just don't like it when a lower resolution is attributed to lazy devs, when there may as well be good reasons for their choice.

Well like I say, we don't have confirmed specs on its pixel fill rate and such.
There have been cases of Wii U versions running at higher resolutions than their PS3/360 counterparts, like Splinter Cell Blacklist and Call of Duty Ghosts. There was one other case I can recall where it ran lower, Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed, but that was when it was rendering a separate screen on the Gamepad and v-sync'd where the other versions had screen tearing.
I suspect it's laziness here though.
Some people still can't see that third parties are anti-Nintendo? It's been this way since Sony released the PSone.

Why? The target audience mostly doesn't know what "resolution" means. |
Probably not.
I'm tech savvy and the only reason I know about games going sub 720p is because I read about it in articles.

Well they own Star Wars now, so yes. |
and Marvel and just about evey other successful entertainment property lol
Why doesn t Nintendo ever weigh in on this type of thing? They need to protect their console owners better-
It seems they are really not much concerned with 3rd party games 1 way or another -

I know, just seized the opportunity to joke at both people that don't know the number of pixels grows quadratically with linear resolution and those that do.
Also notice the irony of karma: 16:9 resolutions were liked by flat panel producers because they allow to boast longer diagonals than 4:3 for the same pixel number and screen area (16:9 was terrible, though, for the last CRT producers, as it made costs skyrocket and quality plummet, my sister was persuaded by a Sony TVs and cameras fanboy former boyfriend of hers to buy one of the last 16:9 Trinitron TVs and it's utter crap, I never ever saw Sony producing other displays as crappy), but they backfire when you state the vertical resolution, making them look not much better than some mid and low 4:3 resolutions (particularly to people that compare resolutions linearly, but the first impression is not particularly good also for the techier ones).
Will not prevent me to buy it on my WiiU anyway :)
