It likely has to do with getting everything produced and shipped for Western markets. I'm thinking they simply had all of the production/shipping stuff done for Japan first and didn't want to delay that just to keep up appearances of a worldwide release. Honestly, I'm okay with it because if the game needs to get patched (which I think it will get some sort of update sometime after the Japanese launch), then Platinum can get the patch ready before the Western release, similar to how we're getting the patch for Hyrule Warriors on day one.
