Interestingly, some news (including that reported here on VGChartz) says that Microsoft expects to break even on the deal by June 2015! That is plain ole crazy.

If they really said that then they're pulling it out of their asses :p Including merchandise Minecraft has likely made about $750m to $850m since its release. I'd love to know how they plan on making that 3 times over in a few months

God buy for Microsoft , they have alot ot untaxed Money outsider US.
Payback after tax only a couple of year.

Good one facebook buying Oculus was big. I still think the Minecraft sale trump the Oculus deal since Facebook is simply diversifying their business with their massive IPO they have money to burn and Oculus isn't really going to be incorporate in facebook.

Don't down play the importance of Minecraft, I have never played the game but I still know that it's one of the biggest current gaming IP hence the $2.5B price tag. My three young nephews have been playing nothing but mine craft over the summer and they were eagerly waiting for Mine craft PS4.  It's not like the graphic will suddenly be outdated for the next gen console since the game was never about graphic!

but will Minecraft 2 do enough to recapture the magic or be the next Wii sports resort?  Also will MS take it off everything except X1 because otherwise it'll be just like 360 having Minecraft exclusive which didn't do much hardware wise.

MS is saying that they can recoup their investment without even releasing Minecraft 2. Basically MS will milk the the Minecraft brand for all it's worth. They are probably going to use minecraft to promote other device or software. Mojang was small company that was raking high earnings without really having to do any promotion or pushing their brand.

I've seen people say that MS need to sell 84 million minecraft at 30$ to get their money back. That's not how they intent to recoup their investment and make revenue with the Minecraft brand. It's certainly an important aspect but that would hardly be worth $2.5B.

What a come back for the Xbox brand. I expect now Minecraft 2 next year, Xbox One exclusive. Looks like Sony will need to transform LittleBigPlanet into a 3D Platformer if they want to catch up. I mean, both franchises are very different, but LBP is now the natural competition of Minecraft.

That was the biggest Xbox news before this deal. Have you played Minecraft? I mean i'm definitely interest in the news but interest enough to play the game?

I'd much rather play more Diablo 3 or get Destiny then sit down and play minecraft.
