Has some sort of "anti-hype" been created for Destiny?

Forums - Gaming Discussion - Has some sort of "anti-hype" been created for Destiny?

Keep in mind, I haven't played the game, so I'm not defending it. It's just that the amount of criticism for the game is kinda bizarre at this point. I saw people complaining about how the ENEMY'S NAMES are generic, for example. Not to mention, the game began with metascore of 81, and then it plummeted to 75 - even reaching a yellow 74 at one point.

At worst, the game looks good, and pretty fun if you're into fps. But people are beginning to treat it like it's the beginning of Bungie's downfall and whatnot. I understand the expectation for a 90+ game after such enormous hype (though, like people have already pointed, there was the beta, and Bungie never promised anything that wasn't on the game). But a "7-8" game is not "TERRIBLE" you know...

Here's a quick comparison, Wolfenstein: The New Order had about the same scores, but people are calling it one of the fps in quite some time. Double standard...?

Some of the criticism is fair. The game is very light on story and the worlds can feel so empty and desolate.

I think it deserves more of a 80 metacritic. It's a great game, but nothing revolutionary. Any game with even an above average amount of hype (OR GOTY AWARDS) will get shut down by people who have never even touched it.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Nah. Great games silence everyone. The reason it's getting bad scores and slammed is because it's not as advertised.

its bitter Xbox campers upset that bungie is no longer exclusive

It got overhyped and under-delivered and Activision Bungie has Damage Control going so... I think most of it them are fair cause there is no excuse for such a short story mode on a $60 game even if it is an MMO

The difference is COD doesn't try to pretend it's the biggest thing since sliced bread every year... everyone knows exactly what they're getting when they pick up the annual COD installment, same as Madden and FIFA.

When you have a new IP that's being advertised as the next big thing, and the story makes the average COD campaign look like an Oscar worthy script while the multiplayer does nothing that every single shooter since COD4 hasn't already done, that's a recipe for some serious disappointment and backlash against the hype.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

That's another thing that's bothering me. It's like 10 hours long isn't it? When has that become "too short"...? I mean, seriously.

Bungie is the one doing damage control.  All Activision did was publish and promote the hell out of the game, which is exactly what they're supposed to do.
