Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Mario Party franchise FORCED to use party bus going forward?

Party bus>Individual Travel

Yup I said it...I don't get the hate for it, it actually makes it feel like all the players are playing the same game (and each roll strategically sets up the person who comes after you) instead of just going around the board individually and only really coming together for minigames.

Is the game going to have online? Hard to get people to play Wii U games locally.

Honestly I don't know how you could patent that type of gameplay? If it was a proven formula that worked then why hasn't Konami had them make a Party game with those mechanics?

Nintendo patented the sanity effects found in Eternal Darkness, so yeah, you can patent gameplay mechanics. I don't believe for a second that Hudson Soft patented anything from Mario Party though. Pretty sure Nintendo would own any patents regarding Mario games since it's their flagship IP. I'm guessing ND Cube just wants to do Mario Party their way, which is honestly pretty stupid.

Mario Party started sucking after 7. At least 7 had 20C starts and items. Now everyone is all happy happy, you can't plot against eachother, you can't have fun anymore. Minigames were only half the fun in MP. The other half was being strategical in order to keep your coins and stars. I don't care much for MP anymore. It just isn't fun.

I doubt that, like really? lol

I liked the old style as well.

Seriously.. Sometimes I  wish Nintendo would just go back to what worked best and stop with all these fucking gimmicks.. Mario Party is not the only franchise I'm talking about though... :/

The bus was a different change and didnt seem as fun as the original gameplay but the bus did make the game go faster whereas sometimes the original gameplay would go on for quite some time.

Not really..

In Mario Party 2 you could adjust how long you played. You can pick "10 turns", "20 turns", or "30 turns". If anybidy wanted to play a quick game, you would pick 10 turns. I NEVER liked playing 10 turns because the game was always over quicker than it started. You never really get the chance to do much in on 10 turns.

The amount of time spent in the classic Mario Party games is FULLY reasonable. It's basically a board game. You don't set up monopoly expecting the game to be over quick. No, you have to invest a little bit of time in the game session.

Anybody who would always want the games to be over quick probably shouldn't be playing the game in the 1st place. Board games are simply not for them.

You would assume Nintendo would own all such gameplay patents (if not necessarily intellectual properties associated with 2nd-party games)

This is what I said but when you really think about it, Hudson created everything. Hudson were the ones that came up with the idea of using 20 coins to gain a star and all those other mechanics if I'm not mistaken.

I'm not sure if Nintendo went to Hudson with the Mario Party idea or if Hudson presented the idea to Nintendo though.

What I REALLY don't understand is why Nintendo just let Konami buy Hudson. Like wtf! But then again, I also heard that the key devs at Hudson left and joined Nintendo. They are also the ones making the new Mario party games right now so that's nice to know.

You dont get the hate because you dont understand that people like options. Give people the option to choose whether they want to play in the party bus or the old fashioned way and EVERYBODY will be happy.

Don't just force people into playing a new way that they may or may not like..

Jesus, Mario Party TEN! Sound kinda ridiculous to me. Why do we even need more than one per generation? It's just a fun game to play with friends and whatnot, ONE is all you need on your console.
