Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Mario Party franchise FORCED to use party bus going forward?

This may or may not be true but I was talking with a couple people about the Mario Party franchise.

The last Mario Party game that I actually owned was Mario Party 2 on the N64 and I'm looking to officially jump back into the series with Mario Party 10 on Wii U. We talked about how Mario Party 9 started this new mandatory way of playing in this new car and how it looks to be the same in Mario Party 10.

After I explained how I preferred the old classic way of playing and traversing the game boards individually, they went on to explain that Nintendo COULDN'T use that classic gameplay anymore.

Supposedly Hudson Soft(Mario Party devs) got bought out completely by Konami and wont be making MP games anymore. They SUPPOSEDLY patented the classic use of traversing the game board individually and using 20 coins to gain a star. And this is why Nintendo created the party bus and this new way of playing to get around those patents.

Is this true??

I looked this up but couldn't find anything on it. If this is true, how would you all feel about Nintendo making it to where you now had to use 25 coins to gain a star?

I can hardly believe that is true....

I hope it isn't but it's interesting

Why else would Nintendo just completely omit the old way of playing like that? There was WAAAAAYYYYY too many people who complained about the car in MP9 for Nintendo to just ignore.

Have you played Mario Party 9? If you have, how exactly do you earn stars? Is it true that you dont collect 20 coins to earn a star anymore?

1. This already sounds stupid from the outset.
2. I really, really want the Hudson Soft Mario Party games...

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

:3

Honestly I don't know how you could patent that type of gameplay? If it was a proven formula that worked then why hasn't Konami had them make a Party game with those mechanics?

"I think it will be the HDS"-Me in regards to Nintendo's next handheld.

Fuck all the Mario Parties.

I can't believe that because of Sonic Shuffle, Monopoly games and heck DBZ tenkaichi 2, all had something similar or just like it. If konami owned the rights, it wouldn't be seen in those games.

That sounds like a conspiracy theory.

I seriously doubt it, but if true I will never play a other Mario Party game again.

They showed the bus car in MP10 for the Bowser Party mode.Iit sorta made sense since it's bowser vs the other 4. I don't think they showed anything about the regular 4p mode. So hopefully this mode goes back to normal.

Imo, the big mistake Nintendo did with this franchise is not making only one Mario Party game per console gen. Kinda like Smash and Mario Kart. I could see this franchise surounded by alot of hype if it had not been milked to death to a point where to battle the franchise fatigue they had to come up with dumb ass ideas like the Party Bus.

I just wish they would go back to the good ol' days of the N64 Mario Party games. :S
