Forums - Nintendo Discussion - IGN is biased against Nintendo

It's not an invalid argument to say that sometimes reviewers just don't understand casual gaming. Titles like Endless Ocean are so radically different than the typical "game" we're used to that it's hard to judge them with the same criteria.

That said there are still crap casual games and these are examples of such. No need to say these games got bad scores because reviewers don't understand casual games. These games are bad regardless. Look at the "Mega Brain Boost" game. It got a horrid score while Brain Age gets great scores from IGN.

One of the problems is that everyone thinks all bad wii games are "casual." They just use that word (along with 'niche') as a convenient excuse.

What people need to learn is that most sites aren't reviewing these games poorly because they're "causal," they're reviewing them poorly cause they're bad games.

if your IR controls are broken, if your graphics are low poly and still manage framerate drops, if you camera system sucks, if your control (in game motion) is sloppy, if your sound is terrible/limited, if you lack a reasonable amount of real content, and you're still retailing at $40/50, your going to get a bad score. it doesn't matter what kind of game you are. That's why big name titles like devil may cry 2 and lair manage to score poorly.

People need to start actually reading the reviews. Most people aren't saying "it's casual, it sucks." Most people are saying "this game feels like it's half finished, it sucks." Being casual or simple has nothing to do with it.

Nintendo tried to control shovelware in previous generations, and it's considered one of the reasons the big N fell from market supremacy. Giving third parties the freedom to do what they want (even if the result is crap) is one of the reasons credited for the ascendance of the Playstation.

One of the reasons, but not the biggest.  The N64 was beat by the PS1 because Nintendo stuck with the cartridge format.  Many developers did not want to continue with the cart because of the cost.  CD is much cheeper to produce and holds way more information.  If the N64 was CD based, we would have seen Final Fantasy VII on N64 and the PS1 probably would have failed.

I agree, six-axis is a piece of Dog-doddle. If I have to use it any time, I rather go and consummate myself with it than using it to play games.

remind me to bring my own controllers when playing PS3 games at kingofwale's house.

The reason IGNs got a slew of craptastic scores recently is because they just hired some extra guys to do reviews to clear the backlog of crap that Matt and Bozon couldn't be bothered with.

Most of these games are PC ports. The Wii is getting a LOT of PC ports which includes some decent adventure games and a lot of crap as seen here. No one beats PC for crap, but Wii looks like it's going to try.

I'd actually say IGN was a little Nintendo Positve.

Gamerankings show them at a paltry -5 off a score out of 100... yet they review like every game... while most other sites skip games made intentionally for little girls and the like.

They probably are too hard on the games meant for little girls and kids though.

....there not biased all the games listed are complete crap

Do you want these game to be good?? WHY is Nintendo not blamed for letting trash like this through in the first place?

Because these games would be on the PS3 if things turned out as expected.
